I was talking to a couple of friends the other night about an old tv programme from the 8o's/90's - think it might have been a jerry anderson production? It had a weird space puppet girl, a hairy puppet friendly monster and a robot/transformer like spaceship?! Does that ring a bell with anyone? any web links if you do know?  Ta.

Lobo Baggins

Star Fleet.  It was Japanese, I think, not a Gerry Anderson production, although it was contemporary with his Terrorhawks.

It was a bit like the Power Rangers, only cheaper.
The wages of sin are death, but the hours are good and the perks are fantastic.

"Send a message out across the sky,
Alien raiders just past Gemini!
Who will come and save us now?
Who can defend us from the power?
Star Fleet, Star Fleet,
Star Fleet, Star Fleet"

I remember being traumatised when the cast all died.  That hadn't happened much in kids' shows at the time.

Rex Banner

IIRC it has been released on dvd but only Region 3.

House of Usher

I remember it - liked it better than Terrahawks.

Best thing about it was the miniature work. Lots of remote controlled military hardware blowing up, and real flamethrowers, too. It made use of that Japanese sci-fi staple, the actor in a giant monster/robot suit striding about breaking things. With the amount of fire all around the place, the guy in the suit should have been on danger money.
STRIKE !!!

Richmond Clements

Brian May and Eddie Van Halen did the music for it.
I've got it here somewhere...

scutfink

No Brian May and Eddie van Halen did a cover of the music for it

Bico

Star Fleet Project album was where Brian May covered the theme, but he didn't do the original.

I remember something very similar to this, but it was a cartoon on BBC2. There was an old psychic Captain Birdseye type who died, and a little kid who was lost in time and got attacked by big wasps. It was all very anime and spacey. I've been trying to find out what this was for years, but no-one ever knows what I'm talking about when I describe it.

Rex Banner

Time Masters.

Again, IIRC, it was a French animated film. The boy gets attacked by the wasp things & then, really not sure about this, is somehow transported through time & the old Cap'n Birdseye character.

Rex Banner

Sorry.

& IS the old Cap'n Birdseye character.

Grae the puppetmaker

Starfleet yay! I'm the only person I know who remembers it.

Yeah I prefered this to Terrahawks too.
