So, I've jacked in my job, and as of next month will be staying at home to write my thesis full time.  And, as of August, I'm jacking in my country to move to Cyprus, where I intend to write my thesis sitting under our vine in the garden next to the Jacuzzi in the Mediterranean sun.

Anyone else got good/bad/lifechanging/fun news to share?

I'm done with exams in two weeks, and then it's Summer Job fun. Hopefully, I'll be able to escape my house in September.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

My band just signed with an indie label so we're gonna have a single put out this summer which is pretty cool, although with it being a small label I doubt I'll even make enough money to quit the callcentre cycle. But still, it's mildly exciting. Would rather be in Cypress though.

In two weeks' time I take my last exam and am officially no longer a student. Instead, I'll be some poor schmo desperately looking for a job.
Nobody warned me I would be so awesome.

I've recently been offered a job.  Probably going to take it.

Does that mean no more writing then GR? Or is it a writing job? Or are you going to cram in organised bursts of creativity between bouts of wage slavitude? Or not? Is it time for me to stop asking questions now? Really? So Soon?

Gordon: does it involve burgers and/or uniforms?

If not, congratulations.

I, Cosh

More to the point, does it involve Spandex-clad halfwits and a double dozen unresolved plot strands left dangling in the Galaxy's Greatest?

Congrats again, James.  I recently got through to round 2 of my EU funding application, which was great (now I just have to wait until the end of June...).  Even better is the amazing weather we've had in Bergen for the past 10 days - spring arrived all at once, and I've been out climbing and kayaking with the missus ever since.  Well, that and a bit of work here and there ;-)

crill

I just signed a deal to write a book for Wizards of the Coast and I got a regular paying job writing for local (South African) television.

I've already been my hols already this year but just booked tickets yesterday for Roger Waters & The Who at Hyde Park so will be visiting London soon. Ah cannae wait.

Apart from that its been the same old grind. Work, eat, plot against all those who wronged me in the past, sleep & back to work again.
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

Oh and try to cut down on typing already!

I'm moaning a lot. Just a few months left to go in my thankless, unfulfilling job and then I don't know what. A grant funding application to do urgently, in the next 3 weeks, and then apply for any other crappy unfulfilling and thankless jobs that come along in case the grant funding application doesn't come off, I suppose.

In the meantime, I didn't bother applying for a housing lectureship in my old department because despite having done housing research I know I don't meet the requirements for the post, having never taught housing law, housing economics or housing policy. On the grapevine I hear that there were two internal applicants for the post; one of whom is a specialist in development policy, and the other in strategic planning. Neither of them has done housing research nor taught housing before. If the post doesn't go to an outside applicant, something's very wrong somewhere.

On the bright side, I've decided I'm working at home as often as I can from now on (for the remainder of my contract if I can help it), and concentrating on writing the publications that my current job has prevented me from doing, which has held back my career by three years.
STRIKE !!!

You know, I'd sooner not.
