Another fun thing that cheered me up after a rather shitty day:

A friend sent a link to a great site for vocal & ukulele covers of videogame themes. Sounds daft, but some of these are actually pretty damn good & I've linked to a few of the better ones below.

Anyone else got a favourite cover version, game-related or otherwise?

I was disappointed not to hear the enchanting Tomb Raider game theme in the films, I'd love to hear any versions of that.

This is the only Tomb Raider remix/cover I've found. It's quite good, but maybe not exactly what you had in mind.

Ta for that. I had something of a "Lick My Love-Pump" moment some time ago (PLEASE tell me you've seen Spinal Tap), when someone I knew played a hauntingly beautiful piece on guitar, then explained it came from (I recall, the Commodore 64 version of 'Rambo'.

I still get the infectiously catchy music from the Atari 64K game Ballblazer in my head, which I believe had a cutting edge computer-improvised synth solo - different every time.

Ah, D Minor - saddest of all the keys :-)

As I understand it - and a quick Google seems to confirm - the music in Ballblazer used a fractal-based algorithm to vary the melody so that every loop brought a fresh variation, but never very far removed from the original. Pretty neat.

Can't find a download of it, but I have fond memories of the Minnesota Kazoo Orchestra's version of "Whole Lotta Love" which I heard on the radio one evening long ago.

I was always pretty sure that the music play through out this old C64 game was a cover of 'House of Fun' by Madness'.
