Modesty - In a Blaise of cheapness.

In Manc today and as I was nipping into Waterstones to look for the latest Blackflame books (Fiends 2 is out, still no sign of either Anderson novels though) and decided to look to see if they had the first Modesty Blaise novel in stock as I don't own a copy and haven't read it for ages. Certain I wouldn't find one but what do I see as soon as I step in the door?

A whole shelf of them as part of Waterstones 99p offer. Along with a variety of other books that are worth checking out they had a special edition of Peter O'Donnells first prose adventure for Modesty. I was expecting to pay the full price of 8.99 so getting it as part of the 'Try me for 99p' range was a huge bonus.

Coverstock is thinner than usual and it's a cheaper paper used than the norm but what do you expect for an ?8 discount?

I've got the first three books and have been hankering to get more. Did they have more than just the first one?

Sadly later books are not in the offer though they'd got a load in stock in the hope of flogging them off the back of the offer. If they don't have them let me know and I'll pick an extra copy on Wednesday.


If anybody ahsn't read the books or comics then you should. They're unashamedly escapist in the best sense of the world and O'Donnell is a great story teller. And the last adventure is a perfect finale too, though I'm saying nothing more about that.

A bit of a delayed response here but thanks for the heads up anyway.

I picked up a 99p copy on Saturday after not finding any comics that I fancied treating myself to. Only read the first 100 pages or so but so far it's really great stuff (really stylish and eye catching pink cover as well).

Now the only problem is resisting the lure of ordering loads of the comics from Amazon : )
