I'm just re-discovering 10,000 Maniacs Blind Man's Zoo which I used to listen to obssesively back in the late 80's. Forgotten what a brilliant Album it is and how fantastic Natalie Merchant was.

Off to dust down the Cocteau Twins and Mortal Coil. Must be into a midlife crisis here...

:-)

It's always a huge pleasure re-discovering stuff, although most of mine are pretty embarrasing. Recently bit the bullet and bought "Hysteria" by Def Leppard again, was my favourite album in the world until NIN and Faith No More came along and it all went a bit weird-shaped. It still rocks.

"Must be into a midlife crisis here... "

I know the feeling.

I recently re-purchased "Thunder and Consolation" by New Model Army, both my original tape and CD versions having long-since gone walkabout.

It's never stopped being one of top ten albums, but since I banged it on the iPod, I haven't stopped playing it.

To this day, I will NEVER understand why this album didn't turn NMA into a massive band. There's not a duff song on it, and it's a work of rare power and passion.

The "re-mastered" version is slightly annoying, because 125 MPH, White Coats, Deadeye, The Charge, Chinese Whispers and Nothing Touches were all originally on the single CD album, whereas now they've been moved to a second disc with a few more extra tracks, but the main CD is still a remarkable piece of work.

Recommended without hesitation to pretty much anyone, regardless of their taste in music!

Cheers

Whoa there, horsey. If listening to timeless classics makes a midlife crisis, then sign me up.

Now, if you were digging out your Clan of Xymox and Xmal Deutschland LPs, that would be a different matter.

I've recently dug out the first couple of Crash Test Dummies albums and they're just brilliant. Wonderful mix of country and rock and I think I prefer them to the more experimental stuff from recently.

Dog Deever

I recently dug up L7- Bricks are Heavy on a scabby old tape (sure you remember- plastic case, full of brown stringy stuff, always unfurls in a car stereo?). Forgot how good it was, and it's got the Ministry on the other side. TV 2- Quality.
In the same drawer i also found The Blaggers ITA- 1994. Eccshelent!
Just a little rough and tumble, Judge man.

Best album title ever! Was it them or Lunachicks who flung their tampons into the crowd at Reading?
We never really die.

Dog Deever

It was L7's guitar player. Quality riot girls! Sick chicks r more fun! Best all female group EVER, bar none, not even the Slits!
That Blaggers album is called Bad Karma, i just labelled it wrong.
Just a little rough and tumble, Judge man.

>Best all female group EVER

Nah that's Fuzzbox... got there dvd a bit back as good now as they were at the time.

Dog Deever

NO WAY. L7 kicks those bints asses sideways. Rules and Regulations was great. Love is the Slug weren't so good, then they went all glam and got into the charts and did a really ARSE one about the Thunderbirds. They are not fit to lick the sweat off a dead mans balls.
Just a little rough and tumble, Judge man.

Quirkafleeg

Yeah, but was the best sell-out evah!
tsk, next you'll be dissing Bananarama and Shampoo

Though L7 do get bonus points for the bass player getting her bush out on The Word and having a comp to let a fan shag one of them...

SamuelAWilkinson

Shampoo? That takes me back...

Oh oh, we're in trouble
Something's come along and it's burst our bubble
(yeah yeah)
Oh oh, we're in trouble
Better get home quick march on the double.

It's like fucking Shakespeare.
Nobody warned me I would be so awesome.

Man, I said it was embarassing! Puts a huge grin on my face though so I have no shame in my love for all things poodle rock. That and "New Jersey" by Bon Jovi got me into music which is a very good thing, I just didn't listen to anything with any credibility until I was 9.
And Deever's damn right, TV 2 is amazing, "You're lying through your teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeth!"

forgotten albums have been quite dispointing for me. Sinead O'Connor, who I used to regard as genius, was just painful to listen to when I bought it again. Billy Bragg who used to be alright now sounds damn annoying.

Shampoo's 'we're in trouble' song is indeed genius. I haven't listened to Bananarama but I bet they're still great.

yours, hanging out to hear 'Temptation' and FGTH again
