I know there are a few fellow WW2 groupies/saddoes out there, so thought I'd pass on this website I found recently.

Nothing to do with comics btw, everything to do with Krupp-steel monsters smashing their way through the untermensch on the Soviet Steppe :)

I maintain that everyone is a WW2 groupie/saddo, even if they don't know it yet/refuse to accept it/brutally supress it deep within them each and every day.

The Tank musuem in Munster, Germany, is pretty ace.

German war museums in general are pretty good, obviously they have a lot of AXIS vehicles, but even more interestingly they inherited tons of stuff from the soviets after reunification so their Cold-War sections are really good too.

Russian Tank Museums are a little scary, and they will quite probably shoot you for infringing the rules. However they'd probably let you drive one home if you bribed them with enough vodka.

Classic quote from Art's link there:

"Please, read carefully this information for the model makers and journalists:

The Russian military officials DO NOT LIKE the model makers."

Any attempts of the  citizens of NO Russian Federation (including former-USSR) to visit museum with the Russian visitors could be qualified as the UNAUTHORIZED  ACCESS. The violator could be accused in the ESPIONAGE. In all halls there're the video-camera control and the FSB (former KGB) officials. Any attempts to leave your travel agent representative and to visit the next military instantiation area could be qualified as the unauthorized access too.

The officer, your visit curator, could translate you into English (small tips 5-10 $, the drink etc. are welcome).

That Vodka's no bribe, it's an accepted form of currency...

Tanky

Ooh! Look at all the shiny artillery! Lovely lovely lovely!

slightly off topic, but as good a place to ask as any...
I have this pipe dream of doing the Gumball rally in a tank. If anyone's able to answer any of the following questions, I'll be that little bit closer. So:
1. Is it possible to obtain a tank driving license without joining the army?
2. Does 'road legal' involve anything more than rubber tracks and decommissioning (sp) the guns?
3. What tank? (Best fictional consumer mag ever!) A Challenger 2 is the vehicle of choice, but with a 6ltr engine and a top speed of 60ish, that's a long, expensive trip.

Over to you, tank afficionados. Charge!

Luv tanky x

Scorpion light tank would be just the Ticket Ma'am. And they trundle along happily on roads, with their rubberized tracks.
I've seen ads were you can drive them about in the country for the day...so I'm sure you could hijack one.
 Me, I want a Soviet T72.
Big jobs...

For me, I'd always go for the Swedish Stridsvagn 10 "S-Tank" which has the best suspension of any tank, it's light, can go backwards as fast as it can go forwards, and has a decent range.

I'm qualified to crew a tank so put me down for one of the places. Even a rickety ol Chieftain has a 1000L fuel tank and a range of around 500KM's, go for the challenger and it huge turbos and your really going to have a big fuel bill.

To drive one you just need a track license.

I hope that over-zealous border guards don't blow you up.

I'd still go for Challenger with its 6 forward & 4 reverse gears, computer controlled so any idiot can drive one.
If its luxury you want then it'd have to be between the Leopard II or the Abrahams and I'd go for the Leopard II.http://www.army-technology.com/projects/leopard/images/leop4.jpg">
