Fantacy is vague term, espeically, with 2000AD in mind.

as this is Sci/Fi fantacy with abit of Horror, Comedy, drama, thrown in.

When you said Dragons, I take you mean that it's the type of fantacy involving wizards, barbarians, and skantily clad women running around in some otherworldly surroundings.

God, no! This is really something I'd prefer not to see in 2000ad. Or anywhere.

My whole problem with DC's Dungeons and Dragons comics in the 1980s was that they were boring and crap, actually playing Dungeons and Dragons was a lot more fun, and the comics read like they were written by someone who'd never actually played Dungeons and Dragons themselves, and so had no idea what it was actually like.

I much prefer to read fantasy along the lines of The Red Seas or London Falling - something a bit different. There's no point publishing a comic looks like Dungeons and Dragons or The Legend of Zelda because narratives of that kind are two a penny, and most game players can improvise one in an afternoon.

I'm not asking for D&D to appear in tooth, just a new fantasy series, featuring dragons

Only if it doesn't take itself too seriously. Tales of Telguuth and Thrud the Barbarian are okay. But anything that tries to make the readers actually care what happens is onto a loser, as far as I'm concerned.

If it's got to be in earnest, I'd rather have science-fantasy in the vein of Elric of Melnibone than medieval fantasy in the vein of Lord of the Rings.

Actually, I have to agree that Red Seas is the closest we've come to a new fantasy series of late.

Emperor

Does it really really have to contain dragons? The writer would have to come up with a different approach to the beasties as they can be difficult to handle. When I was a lad I wrote a short story set in a world where people were symbiotically linked with giant monsters like dragons, cetaceans, etc. - I think it was round about the time I was reading the Dragonriders of Pern and Elric (hopefully more the latter than the former as I found the books a bit tame).

I'm up for stories not set in the future (and with no Slaine or Red Seas there is room for one) but I'd worry about fantasy comedy as this can be even trickier than dragons. I tend to find myself agree with this:

If it's got to be in earnest, I'd rather have science-fantasy in the vein of Elric of Melnibone than medieval fantasy in the vein of Lord of the Rings.

In the end though it all depends on getting the right story - even if I voted yes for dragons it'd be pointless if it was rubbish.
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Nothing wrong with fantasy stories in 2000ad but an epic? No I don't think so.

Stuffy buggers aren't ya?
Slaine is a fantasy epic, so it's not like they aren't popular or doable is it?

Yes, I loves me some dragons!

But generally speaking I don't mind any genre,so long as the story's good. That's all I ever ask for.

Just llooking at some of theose illustrations of Dragons from UK Dane's post here.

I really hate the way some of the artists ( Though they still are well drawn.) have drawn four armed dragons. The back ones used for thsiere wings and the front left free.

As Dragons go, it just looks abit too odd.

I do like Glenn Fabry's interpretation of Slain'e Knucker though.
