The Amstor Computer

It's that time again, so here's the voting thread for October's competition. The theme was "Dredd Villains" and we had some cracking entries, so anyone who's had difficulty picking out a top three before will likely find this month a nightmare!

Pick your top three & list them in order here. Voting will run until next weekend when the winners will be announced. As suggested in another thread, we'll try something fresh this time and - in addition to the small prizes for the winners - the first place will get to pick the subject for November's comp.

As always, a massive thank you to everyone who took the time to enter something for the comp & don't be disheartened if your own entry doesn't come out on top - with only three places and so many great entries, some nice work is bound to slip through the cracks. If I've missed anybody out, or if I've included something you didn't want posted, let me know.

Finally, a quick shout-out to both Simon Penter & Dark Jimbo - I don't know if either of you got my board mails, but your prizes from last month's comp are waiting for you, so drop me a line.

The Amstor Computer

...and my top three are:

1 -- Mini Bolt
2 -- Swimini Tulkas
3 -- MIK

...with honourable mentions for Bolt & Rac's great strip entry, James' Chief Judge Child, Woolly's fantastic Father Earth, Wils' Judge Fear and Kambei's model entries. Great stuff, guys!

thinky

my 3 votes worth

3. Dog Deever, for it's sheer "this must be gibson" vibe - love the colours
2. Radiator's orginal non-dredd-visor entry
1. Wils' thing i don't remember the name of, but could be "necromancer" from the judge child quest - love the chalk on blackboard stuff

thinky
you think this isn't me? that's so sweet...

Wils

Argh! How difficult is this?!

I'm not going to dwell too much on this, as I'll only keep changing my mind and give myself a headache, so...

1. Carlsborg's *fantastic* Raptaur.
2. Swimini Tulkas' rendition of one of my favourite villains.
3. 54's new Mean.

Concrete Block 15

Fantastic entries all, and thanks to you artistic types for illuminating the board so splendidly.
Inna final analysis, and in time honoured reverse order:

3. Swimini Tulka's "Judge Dredd"
2. Wils's Judge Fear
1. Woolly's Father Earth and his Doomsday Dogs -
   superb.

Emperor

Damn tricky:

Dark Jimbo - I liked the concept and realisation with some great detail. It rewards careful viewing ;)
Wooly - Father Earth has always stuck with me as a great villian since I was a young un and that is a great rendition of him along with other great characters (love those dog faces) as well as other nifty pics too.
Molcher - he threatened to give me a Chinese Burn if I didn't vote for him, its just lucky I'd already decided to give him a vote anyways. It captures the disturbing feel of Judge Dredd when I first saw him (I sometimes feel like he has gone a bit camp/panto recently) and being a strip it is a lot of value for money (if there was any money involved).

Honourable mentions:

Mini-bolts characters. I want to see more. A whole adventure of the bobble-headed Dredd?

Jock - very nice. You should do that for a living ;)

Radiator and Simon Penter - really good stuff again and both have excellent paint jobs.

skoi - good stuff. Nake sure to pop back for more competiitons.

Oh and everyone else because... OK I reached a point where I realised everyone deserved an honourable mention and I ran out of steam.
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Bolt-01

1. LMS. Superb mood.
2. Tulkas' Alien Dredd- mental
3. James' CJ Krysler. Menacing!

I also want to vote for 54 Jones' new Mean, but I can't... Aargh!

Bolt-01

W. R. Logan

I'll go for:

3] Simon Penter's Fink

2] LMS's Death

and in first Place its a tie between

1] Jim Campbell's Fribb Enzyme & The Executioner. The Fribb picture made me laugh & I thought it was a great touch having Blanche Tatum weeping as she removes The Executioner's mask.

Albion

Mmmmm....tricky.

1. Simon Penter - Fink Angel
2. Swimini Tulkas - Alien/Robo Dredd thing
3. Mini-Bolt - Villains (Love that Satanus!)
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side.

Jim_Campbell

Jeez. Officially: toughest compo to judge. EVAH!

As last time, snap decision to save wasting a whole morning umm-ing and ahh-ing:

3) LMS

2) Tulkas

1) 54Jones new Mean

As Emperor says, no point in doing hon menshes, since everyone deserves one, and I could have picked an entirely different set of winners who would have been equally worthy.

Many thanks to Logan for the kind words and the vote (again!) - your cheque's in the post.

Cheers!

The 3 J's...

1. Jimbo
2. James
3. Jim

Now, i better leave this thread quickly before i change my mind...
(sigh).. I love these threads!

Dark Jimbo

1. LMS - Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. It would actually be cool to see more mini-strips in these comps, I might even have a crack at one myself next time. This is perhaps the creepiest Death's ever been, and I hope that sounds like the high praise it's meant to.

2. Mini-Bolt - Big heads!!!! I love it. Nice to see Fish get included, too.

3. Woolly's Father Earth - The more I look at this the more I love it, especially the guy with the club on Father Earth's right.

But sooooo many others I wanted to vote for.
@jamesfeistdraws

ThryllSeekyr

THis time around I really want to aviod voting for the same people over and over again.

Though it's hard to ignore Woolley's and 54 Jones great work. ( His work would make for a excellent 2000AD Art book.) I'll decline voting for him in favor of making room for other talent in the top three.

Third Place.

Simon Penter's medley of Mega-City One villian's caught in the reflection of Judge Dredd's visor.

Second Place.

Jim Campell's Judge Death.

First Place.

Longmanshort's sample of a comic strip. The art work here and in J. Campell's reflects the type of work that I would like to see a return to in 2000Ad magazine.

Dog Deever

1st: James, especially the coloured Chief Judge
2nd: Mini-Bolt- I'm on the bobble-head band wagon!
3rd: Wils' Trapper Hag swayed it in the end

Though he didn't finish his (pencilled it, but no colour- he 'forgot'), Dog Deever Jr wants to vote too.

1st: Kambei
2nd: Radiator
3rd: Woolly
Just a little rough and tumble, Judge man.

SIP

Because it looks like I'm struggling for votes can I still claim Thryllseekyrs 3rd place??  ;-)

....its Mr Radiators efforts that should be getting your vote there Thryllseekyr.

Simon.
