So, the house full of dealers were PLEASED to see the Boys in Blue... and then invited them in?

Sounds more like the work of Captain Fit-Up and Evidence Planting Boy to me.

They won't be laughing so much when their dreaded arch enemy, the fiendish Dr CPS, gets hold of it...

Judging from the photo of the officers in question, they were pretty good Batman and Robin costumes. If I'd been the crooks, I wouldn't have been tricked into thinking they were party-goers in fancy dress. I'd've thought they were the real thing.
