Can we vote for art and story?

When we vote for a story, why can't we vote for the art and the writing?  Sometimes the art is great and the story is tosh; sometimes vice versa.

You could make the same argument for wanting to vote for each episode individually, or vote on the colouring. Basically there are three reasons why I am not planning to allow separate script and art votes:

1) All the hundreds of votes cast so far would be redundant, because I wouldn't know if they applied equally to the script and art

2) It would slow the page load times down even more...I'm planning on trying to speed up the voting code, so I don't want to bulk it out at the same time.

3) It makes voting harder (i.e. thinking of what value to give) and I'd probably have to then average the scores anyway to get the top and bottom 20s, or have separate lists for art and script ratings.

I said this bloody ages ago.  And have an average score for the total.  It makes sense!

No, because the score as it stand would be the average score.  Giving the same vote to art and script unless you changed it.  the votes would NOT be redundant.  And as you wouldn't have to vote for art and script seperately, you could just give the average score.

The problem with speed is fully understandable though.

I can understand Wake's reasons for not wanting to do this, but it would be useful for voting. With many recent thrills, I've ended up voting down strips with good-very good art simply because the story was appalling (most of the recent Steve Moore strips fell victim to this). There have also been a few strips that have been shafted by poor art, and it would be useful to have the opportunity to make it clear which aspect of the strip was poor.

I firmly believe that each strip should be considered as a whole. to seperate the elements is folly IMHO.

plus, half the people voting would just not vote for one half of each story if they didn't like it, and this means that every story Gordon wrote would just get great votes for art and nuthin for the script:P

I KNOW we should vote for the whole rather than each half but occassionally one grates against the other. (E.g. when recommending films to people I know that SFX fans would like "Attack of The Clones" but people that like good story, dialogue and character development won't).

However, given technical limitations and the problems experessed above (even the one that I guess is a wind-up), I can see this isn't a good idea.

It's not quite the same, but people could split their vote by rating the writer and artist.
