don't get me wrong, the rudeness was part of the going there thing, bit like basil fawlty in an x-men t-shirt...he doesnt do as many action figures. instead there is a shop up near the railway station that does. he has stacks of star wars, wrestling, halo etc but unfortunately at extortionate prices which, before someone waves the flag for the small independent retailer, has charged 7 quid more than basil's comic shop for stuff,or said "it doesnt exist"or thats not out yet, when ,if you go for a walk to basil's is and  has been there for ages. the most annoying thing he does is when you go in and ask if he'll be getting the new judge dredd hellboy he says he will only get them in if you buy(like now)a full set!!!!even the pap figs that end up in poundstretcher! i always say i'll leave it ,and now i have the mighty tinternet(i'm a northerner,i can get away with that) i'll buy my single (or two)figures off them, not im.

There is a comic shop in Chester that has that rarified atmposphere of nerdiness to it that i have felt slighty out of place in.Its a good shop though.crammed full of everything.

Nerdyiness... someone's already said- we're no weirder than the folks who go to a pub wearing a Beckham shirt... how likely are they to play for England? So, how is that acceptable when dressing like a Jedi isn't? (and I'm not suggesting we all dress like Jedi...)

I did hear an apocryphal story a while back about guys going to Trek conventions dressing as Admirals so they'd out rank the women and therefore theoretically stand a better chance of scoring...

We've all got our dreams and obsessions. My missus' uncle is a major civil servant who loves listening to LPs (vinyl!)of train noises... and he makes decisions that affet the whole country (well, ok Wales)

The Storm Trooper guys do disturb me a little... who watches a film and says 'yes! I really identify with the fascist bastards in white plastic- I'm going to dress just like them!'

mogzilla

know it! do you look at the men coming out of the string curtained section dis-approving looks? or is that just me? no discrimination though he wraps everyones purchases in plain brown paper bags so we all look guilty when we come put!

mogzilla

the jedi robe looks quite comfy .it'd be like wearing your dressing gown to work..mmm.

It makes you wonder what else they are selling as there is something dodgy about the shop.  Is the guy with the long hair still there? He is always friendly enough. There is always loads of 2000ads in boxes under tables but never any early editions.

i'll bein there next week but i'm not going to ask if they sell anything dodgier it's a long way to run and i'm old! i got a few early 2000ad's including the one i was specifically after prog 173 as it was the first one i remember reading and that cover of dredd with the mouth stuck in my mind.i think it's just a case of being lucky at the time.i forgot all about captain klep's adventures, still make me laff!

  |I will be up at some point as my family live in snooty cheshire so i always go to manchester when i visit and i have been to southport a few times as well.I dont like cheshire. Its full of vulgar footballers wives types or the snooty cheshire life / horse and hound types.both as bad as each other in my opinion.

It takes ages to rummage all through those boxes of 2000ads as well.I do hope that you resist the temptation to venture over to the pornographic section that is over to one side of the shop. Its sort of screened off to the rest of the shop.
