I'm not a big Hellboy fan, but what Ive read has a nice 'feel' to it is kind of over written when you have the modern day equivalent of soft rawk underlining every scene...

Plus, wasnt this a case of Hollywood adding a romance to the thing just... because? Despite Mignolas apparent involvement, it just looked to me like theyd squeezed the character into standard hollywood template number 1, the same used by the makers of Dredd.

some cool imagery in there, but much reduced from the atmosphere that the comic creates?

Goaty

I love the scene

"are you going to be okay, alone?"

"How big it can be?" then something happens next.
my fave scene!

Funt Solo

Special effects and make up - great.  Otherwise, it's by the numbers Hollywood that misses the dark edges of the books.  (Probably, on purpose, in order to get the correct age rating.)

It's nowhere near as bad as the Dredd movie, though.  There's a difference between altering the tone of something and strapping it over a barrel and [censored] it right up the [censored] with a chainsaw.
An angry nineties throwback who needs to get a room.

I love this movie.
I love it cause it's got big scary monsters, but it's still at a level where my young children can watch- being that there's no swearing or gore.

Listening to a 6 year old saying in a rumbling deep voice, 'Oh crap', or 'I'm gonna be sore in the morning', is priceless.

I thought it was perfect casting having Ron Pearlman as Hellboy.Does anyone remember Beauty and the Beast that had Ron Pearlman and Linda Hamilton in it? This was around in the late 80s and i remember my sister taking the piss and saying that i reminded her of Ron Pearlmans character in the series.I have never seen it repeated anywhere on tv anywhere.

TordelBack

Other than The Incredibles and maybe Mystery Men, Hellboy must be my favourite "superhero" movie - it's a good flick on its own terms.

wicked, wicked film.  the next one MUST have Johann in it.http://www.comicartfans.com/Images/Category_5509/subcat_10536/Thumbs/Johann.jpg">

I thought the movie was great.  A good adaptation of a comic.  Has anyone seen the Directors Cut?  Any big differences?

i have just started reading Hellboy Seeds of Destruction. This seems to be material that the film was based on.Having just started reading it i have no idea yet how far  the plot for the film deviates from the source material.

It is very good by way.[the GN ]

I've got the Director's Cut, only watched it once but I remember it being slightly less satisfying, the added scenes seem to have been taken out because they don't add very much and only succeed in making the movie a bit longer.

It's still a great movie and  like Tordelback I reckon it's probably the superhero movie I've enjoyed the most, and have watched the most probably. It's also the movie that made me realize my girlfriend was my ideal woman, I don't know many other girls who cried at Hellboy. Have to admit the line "I wish I could fix....this" always wells me up, for a moment you really forget you're watching a superhero movie, it genuinely tugs my emo heartstrings. Fantastic movie.

johann krauss is in it as is kroenen the clockwork zombie. It is supposed to be more in tune with the comics.

Is there gonna be a third animated film?
