How did you get on...? & sketches here please!

James

They're all probably a bit knackered and hungover.

Large48

Was ok but my £5 sketch book didn't have any in it!!!

Dangerous queuing to get in, very cramped (McMahon and Talbot on the SAME table!) and hot in the hall although parking was ok.

Also Micky Mignola (was a camp tart he is!!!!) wasn't doing sketches due to the queue on Sat amd this pissed quite a few people off.....

A sketch is a privilige afforded by an artist, not a right.

Very tired but I had a good time. Got a McMahon sketch of Pilgrim from the last american and Kingdom of The Wicked sketch off D'Israeli.

Wake'll have pictures of people in a judge helmet soon too I imagine.

Dunk!

Standing by Mike Mignola's desk, getting this sketch from D'israeli, i thought he was an absolute trooper. Didn't blink an eye as folks brought teetering stacks of comics for him to sign and even did the entire crate of figures one bloke had brought - obviously for personal use...

Anyway here's my Kitchener inspired Stickleback sketch from the ever entertaining Mr Brooker.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Tulkas32/stickleback_sketch_brumcon07_small.jpg">

Just wanted to thank everyone who stopped by the 2000ad table to chat and get sketches... hat a great show!

Mike Mignola was really cool... and even gave me a sketch and ... a compliment!

Look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Sketches to follow, when I get some time to scan.

This was a grand little con. Not as big as Bristol, but the close proximity to the rooms meant that talks were easy to get to from the main hall.

It was great to meet so many folks and I am not ashamed to say that I turned into a 9 year old boy again when I met Mike mcMahon. He drew me a most wonderful sketch of... Wait till later, and it was only fitting that he be first in the 2000ad sketchbook.

Wake was taking the Helmet round, and i'm sure everyone will attest- it has a psychic compulsion built in. If you hold it, you WILL wear it. Irresistible.

News wise- I missed the 2000ad panel, but I have good word that vince Locke will be doing a Wagner Dredd for the Meg in April, Cover by Tony Lee.

Ian Edginton was as surprised as the rest of us by the appearance of a particular part of the anatomy in Stone Island as we were.

There is also a Wagner Dredd featuring the Fargo's on the way in the spring, but I don't think I can say who the artist is. I'm not sure If I'd be breaking confidence.

Making it's first appearance at this con was the Zarjaz Dredd special, with a rather lovely Boo Book cover. This sold out for me- but I assume colin will have some copies left.

Colin also has decided to step down as Editor of Zarjaz, so the anniversary special is the last from Underfire. From next issue I'm dead chuffed to say that it will be brought to you by myself and his Lordship RAC. Same stable as Dogbreath. More news on that as time goes by.

I'm firmly of the belief now that D'Israeli does the best convention sketches money can't buy.

What a hero!

Buddy

Indeed Trout, indeed!!

I always seem to get there just when he's starting to pack up so havn't got one yet!

Must make a point of getting to him first before hitting the usual suspects.

Dunk!

A D'israeli sketch also has hidden bonuses.

Half an hour chat with the great man himself about life the Universe and being your own action figure, Ian Edgington throwing in hints about Stickleback's next outing every now and then, the chance to peruse the pile of lovely original art on the desk and then seeing a grown comicbook artist reduced to a purring, quivering mass due to a neck scratch from of a petite spanish(?) lady friend. Not bad for a £10. :)

D'Izzy's posted his gallery of sketchees from Birmingham over on his blog.

Shame I missed him, and the Con.  Will miss him down in London in a couple of weeks as well as I'll be in California...
