Looks cool alright, but I prefer the Alien with the smooth head. I dunno why, but I think that makes it look scarier.

that alien on poster is Alien Warrior

the shutdown man

Yeah I know, but I still think there's something creepier about the other Aliens (I'm not sure what they're called, drones?)

Also, I have very much my own theory that says drones and warrior Aliens are the same thing. But that's just me sitting bored at my workdesk thinking over a long day.....

If these AvP movies prove anything, it's that you can take a great idea and classic design and squeeze all vestiges of quality out of it and reduce it to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
Still, I'm ready to eat my hat!

yeah, I think drones was created outside the nest, and the warrior was created inside the nest, so aliens got the nest in US Town! that would be good...

and i am also at my desk as well!

No arguing, AvP was utter shite. But everything that's come out for AvPR looks encouraging, in as much as they've gone back to the gleeful gore and mayhem of the earlier Predator and Alien films.

"yeah, I think drones was created outside the nest, and the warrior was created inside the nest, so aliens got the nest in US Town! that would be good..."

Actually that makes a lot of sense, probably more than my theory. But I'll throw it out there anyway....

In Alien, Alien3 and Alien Resurrection, we see creatures which have only been alive for a few days at most before they get killed. In Aliens however, we do not know exactly how long the Aliens were running around on the planet before the marines got there, possibly weeks, even months. So my theory is that as the Aliens grow, they naturally develop the bony ridges, and more jagged appearance. Maybe it's a harder outer shell? (I did hear in an interview with one of the designers once, possibly Giger, that the reason the Alien turns from white to black is because its skin is so thin, it is essentially bruised.I think that interview is in the Quadrilogy)

Anyway, like I said, just a theory, dreamed up one day while trying to figure out why there were two types of Alien.

their skins build the nests, i think???????

Thats just what i have been saying as well.I just cant wait to see it.

I am not sure when exactly this film is going to get a UK release. The posters say january.Thats a shame as a xmas release would have been better.

Does january on the posters apply to the UK or USA?

  Thanks if anyone knows.

From what I understand the aliens actually always had those ridged heads from the beginning, or rather that's what they look like with the smooth cowl removed. It was James Cameron who decided to remove it to simplify the alien design sincece he was going to have a whole bunch of alien guys running around instead of one actor to follow.

Interesting how it's given rise to the different types of alien theories... which is cool in itself. No reason why a purely design idea can't be explained from within the story.

Another thing I noticed (which might be just in my head)is that the alien of the first film seems bigger than the ones in Aliens. Literally that is actually true, they had a seven foot creature actor in the role, whilst in the sequel, just regular sized guys in suits, but even so with the right perspective shots, and a bit trickery they could still pull off the bigger creatures. That could be purely an illusion on my part, but it adds to the whole, "Was the alien from the first film different from the warriors of Aliens" debate.

Since it's a hightly adaptive organism it could be argued lone creatures become larger and more powerfull since they've only got themselves to rely on. On saying that it could be argued that a smaller creature has more chance of surviving as they can hide more easily...
Hmmm.
I'm looking forward to this film though. I wish they'd kept to the smooth cowl look though.  The ridges do look good, but the other is more iconic, more alien somehow, as opposed to just a reptile rip off.
