Stuff about the spring Dr Who series. Looks like a clear out of the BBC basement has found a galaxy of 'stars'. Mike (the cool person) out of the Young Ones as head Sontarian will have me back behind the sofa, without doubt.

the sontarans always freaked me out more than scared me with that deformed head.

...always freaked me out more than scared me with that deformed head.

Rather spookily, that pretty much sums up my feelings of Christopher Ryan as well.

Is there some reason the BBC feels compelled to spoil all these returning baddies?  I don't get it.

mogzilla

the new suit looks like summat from "metal gear solid"

Happy with the return of the Sontarians, but dismayed about the return of Martha.

I am not sure why but I hated the character, could be the way they wrote her all luvvy duvvy, and pineing after the doctor. OOOOO kisssy kisssy can I be your girlfriend, but thats just my opinion.

For nostalgia's sake they could have Sean Pertwee in the series somewhere. Maybe.

Doctor Who can just fuck off, the hormonally imbalanced mentally retarded twat.

Cheers ;)

I hope that at some point, the Doctor fights the most evil enemy of all.

RACISM.

Also I'm starting a fund to help PVS reinforce his house so that he may be protected from the militant wing of the RTD apologists.

Good to see that the Beeb is still willing to hype the shit out of such a mediocre show. If RTD got hit by a car they'd be teh fuxord.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

I think the only way to get rid of RTD would be to stage a coup, I reckon he's going to hang on with the same tenacity as General Musharraf.

And, much like Hispter I greet the return of old villains and characters with all the enthusiasm of watching grave desecrations.

Anyway, I can only be annoyed by Doctor Who, the nostlagia banks have been exausted and the only thing that might be able to save it for me is if someone reversed the polarity of the neutron flow (kicked out RTD and replaced him with someone who can write a story, maybe Moffat).

I'll get me coat, floppy hat and scarf.

The suit looks less real than the 70s version, which is some effort - like a power rangers baddie, with lots of extraneous detail that is obviously just for show, and therefore not very effective.

That said, it does look like a Sontaran, which is some improvement on the Colin Baker outing!

For me it sms up one of the problems I have with the new production team - they are fans enough to know of Robert Holmes original description of them as wearing something akin to a Knights armour. They seem to me to have attempted to get closer to that original vision than the Time Warriors suit even when the finished effect isnt that great, you can see them going "At last! Holmes vision realised" before "so thats why they didnt do it back in the day".

His head doesnt sit very well on the collar either - again, making it look less real than the time Warrior version.  He looks a bit lost  rather than fearsome, and the "do you expect me to take you seriously?" looks on the others faces dont help.

The colouring isnt helping I think.  Theres some photoshopped darker versions that have already been done that look better.

I though Sontarons were huge buggers.

Leigh S

Theyve always been squat, but I think there was a visual trick in the originals of a lot of padding on the upper half, making them appear very imposing despite their shortness - the new version doesnt seem to pull that trick off.

Richmond Clements

Nah- they were short.

Sontarans are one of my favourite ever baddies- and I can't wait to see them back. I thought we were going to have them last season when I first saw those Judon fellas.
