***I think this is spoiler free, nothing more than what a review might say***

Anyone else seen this yet?

I saw it on Sunday night and I thought it was excellent.I think it used the source material well - it didn't try to push it far beyond the comic.Thought the vamp make up was spot on and creepy as hell - Mrs Mikey was completely freaked out by them!

The film maintains it's pace and tension from the word go IMO and doesn't pander to usual expectations.

I loved the aerial track shot over the town with the sporadic resistance just after the vamps have kicked off;it painted a suitably bleak picture as a backdrop to the survivors plight. And I also loved the 'bait' scenes...

On a mild gripe - one in common with a lot of vamp movies - is the lack of dialogue with sub ordinate vamps.OK,so it's not essential, but it sort of annoys me when the 'leader' says something and all the others can do is go 'sssssssssss!' in excitment or anticipation.

Anyway - I'd recommend it.I'm looking forward to seeing it on DVD to see if it holds up.

To tell the truth, you can all get screwed.

I though it was OK (I've never read the comic, so I'm not comparing it to a source). It was a fun horror/suspense film, but to be honest, I didn't like the design of the vampires. I know they were going for a whole new idea, instead of the usual "humans with fangs", we're getting these totally different creatures, but I just thought they looked silly. The head guy walks around, mouth agape, looking vaguely stoned most of the time, and his vampire speech just sounds stupid.

Still, there were some cool bits in there. I did like the whole build-up at the beginning, and some of the more chaotic human vs. vampire scenes were a lot of fun.

(I should add that my views on this film may be coloured by the experience I had while trying to watch it: three "howayas" (female Dublin scumbags) sitting behind me talking full-volume about every detail..... "Ah here, turn off the light for fuck's sake.......can she not see the vampires behind her.........clean your bleedin' teeth!!!!")

COMMANDO FORCES

This is when you have to stand up and be counted and get them ejected from the pictures.
Then again do what I do and watch the thing on Pirate and if it's any good get the real thing when it comes out!
I detest other people in the pictures as they are all SCUM.

the shutdown man

Well, myself and my mates all simultaneously snapped at one point and turned around and told them to shut the fuck up. It more or less worked, but I kept come of my coke handy in case I needed to throw something in someone's face before the film was over. (Asking them to be ejected wouldn't do anything in this cinema)

I just realised how I phrased that last sentence: "Please, would you get yourselves ejected from the cinema right now, you're pissing me off?"

Anyway, I'm sure y'all knew what I meant.....

Eric Plumrose

From what I remember, the first half of the film is pretty aimless but a few moments of nastiness kind of maintain the interest. The aforementioned tracking shot, although effective, does owe a debt to the Dawn of the Dead remake. It's also a challenge to NOT start quoting dialogue from The Thing towards the end.

And if you're freaked out by how grotesque Richard James often appears in those Aphex Twin videos then you might not like the vampire make-up.
Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.
