... It turns out there are no plans to release the new Futurama movie on anything other than Region 1 DVD. Of course, because there are no Futurama fans outside the US, obviously.

Oh well, their loss. My good friends Mr Bit and Mr Torrent have obliged and that fifteen quid of my money Fox won't be seeing.

Cheers!

I 'auditioned' the film myself and it was pretty funny - especially the opening bit about Planet Express being cancelled and coming back. All the time jumping was a bit confusing but it was funny to see the source of the original alien demolition of Earth as seen in episode one.

They are going to split it into 4 episodes and the cut points are pretty obvious - every 21 minutes or so! I watched it along these lines as too much together gets a bit grating.

Good stuff though and well worth a look if not a DVD import.

I was straining to smile through the opening sequence, bit it got a lot better as it went on.  Loved the little nods to continuity, like Fry's dog, and heaping on time paradoxes was funny, too.  Best bit was when Lars said (NOT THAT YOU'LL KNOW IT, BUT IT'S STILL A SPOILER) "I've been waiting for you all my life" and I cottoned on to a twist that I wasn't even looking for.  Good fun.

I read somewhere that suits at the Fox company don't like Futurama because - unlike the Simpsons - Matt Groenig held onto the rights and controls the franchise.  Given a choice, they'd happily not have renewed the series in any form, but the dvd sales and repeat showings were doing too well (see also: Family Guy - which Futurama shamelessly steals a post-cancellation gag from in it's opening minutes).

I read somewhere, I'll see if I can find it again, that the Region 2 release had a date of April 2008 with the thinking that a channel over here wanted to show it before it was released.

Regarding the opening "nicked from Family Guy" cancellation gag, given how much Family Guy has gone downhill lately, this just made Futurama's one all the funnier. Also, there's a Family Guy 12-Laughs-A-Year Calender in the background in one scene. ZING!
You're at the precipice Tony, of an enormous crossroads.

"I invited these guys to come up now, instead of when they were logically supposed to."

Brilliant. Watched this round my mate's after a long evening of drinking and partying in my rock 'n' roll way.

It's just so good to see it back - like an old mate whom you've not seen in years.
Nobody warned me I would be so awesome.
