I saw that last week - quite revealing for a 'first trailer' as it were

Looks good, I was in love with the books and BBC series as a child so these films can't fail to ensnare me (although others fail to understand the appeal).

Don't know how they're gonna handle the bizarre happy clappy ending though - great ideas about the 'Spanish' invaders

I'm hoping it paves the way for Dawntreader, Silver Chair and Final Battle films; although I'm still miffed that The Magician's Nephew was skipped yet again, when it's one of the best in the series.

Yet another identikit fantasy that wouldn't have got made if Lord of the Rings hadn't given those involved the necessary brain-fart.  The first one was popular, though, so I'm sure kids liked it, it's just these interchangeable trailers with loud orchestral music are starting to blur together now, and by this stage it's hard not to view each new one as some sort of parody of the genre.  Having Liam Neeson say "everything you know will change" near the end doesn't help that perception, either.

Looks pretty good. I have to say I never read that one, so it will be new to me and the kids.

The film looks good but these films always always have to have middle class kids in them.

I think they're doing it in the order of how he wrote them - because then also the actor's wouldnae age terribly although Edmund will be like, thirty when it's time for Dawntreader.

and according to this order I think Magician's Nephew is second to last so it'll be Narnia created followed by Narnia destroyed.

Agreed on the whole 'Everything you know will change' line - not groovy

Great news - I haven't read the books but loved the first film...it made a refreshing change for a children's fantasy film to be done so 'straight' without added cutesyness, Christmasyness or celebrity-voiced comedy sidekicks. Liam Neeson is an incredibly dull actor though, like Schindler, he just really seemed to suit Aslam. For me though the film was made by Tilda Swinton, now my favourite actress, who was absolutely chilling. I noticed the White Queen flashes up quickly in this trailer though I gather the character doesn't feature properly in the story.

loathe as I am to disagree with you given that I'm a firm defender of the original film (- but this is a forum after all -), the comedy sidekick/christmasyness was in there definitely (in the form of a Cockney Beaver and Father Christmas probably)

I think they are only doing three films but dont quote me on that. I read an article when they decided to redo TLTWATW but I cant remember which was going to be the last film. Things might have changed since the artical was written and it was probably shit anyway.

well it entirely depends on how much money this one makes - if the third one gets a massive box office then you'll have trouble keeping them from doing another

that's why we're all desperately awaiting Saw VIII good lord

If this follow up is as dull as the first movie, I shall be giving it a very wide berth. Infact if memory serves me right, I found the wooden acting and plummy voices from most of the young cast so grating and distracting I wanted to throttle the little bleeders!
Still, if this can't of undemanding pap is to your liking, good luck to ya!
Apologies for sounding like a miserable git.

The plummy accent is how they speak in the books though (although they're not as bad as the famous 5) but I understand what you mean. Especially the acting... I'm not really a fan of child acting, but I have been surprised. (Natalie Portman in Leon for example)

This series of books were my favourite as a child. For some reason I got rid of them (I think it was the usual' "it's for kids" thing teenager go through when they get to a certain age - like it matters.)

The first film was pretty close to the book too, at least as far as I can remember. Although Charis, the white witch should have black hair, but never mind.

As for Prince Caspian, the book was a good one (I never actually owned that one but I read it!). I wouldn't be surprised if they finished with Voyage of the Dawn Treader as that's the last one with any of the original kids. Well ok, that's not entirely true but their role is very small in later books.

As for the Magician's Nephew, that was one of my favourites too, and would be an interesting film as it would be a Victorian period piece too and you get to see other worlds as well appart from Narnia... I doubt they'll do it though. It does feature 2 characters from the first film but not so you'd recognize both of them.

I, Cosh

My mate's wee sister worked (or possibly is still working) on this and the next one, so there's definitely going to be Dawn Treader. I suppose it'll just depend on how successful they are whether the rest get made.

Thought the first one was alright, especially Tilda Swinton, but with some surprisingly poor special effects. Will probably see this at some point.

"the comedy sidekick/christmasyness was in there definitely (in the form of a Cockney Beaver and Father Christmas probably)"

Yes I also was a bit worried about Dawn French and Ray Winstone being used as voices, though I seem to remember feeling relieved that they didn't use it as an excuse for some comic relief. I peronally found those voices a bit unconvincing partly because they were known voices and also such deep voices didn't sound like they could be coming from the beavers but I guess the alternative is squeeky Chip & Dale type voices and we have the cuteness problem. However, I'm due to watch it again this week so I could change my mind.

The Father Christmas bit: I don't know what that was like in the book.

Posh kids: I think it would have been more of a travesty if they had made them more updated and 'street' to appeal more to todays' youth - which must have been a temptation and possibly made the films a bigger hit.

I did like that the director said (in one of the special features) that he didn't want it to look like some imaginary childhood wonderland, as if it may have all been a dream - it was important that the world of Narnia be a totally real physical place. Perhaps this is why some thought it lacked magic.
