Is "Total War" the greatest Dredd saga?

I still have a lot of Dredd to catch up with but I have to say after recently reading "Total War", I don't think I have ever read a more visually incredible, mind blowing story as this. The scenes of mass destruction in the Meg were frightening. The fact a terrorist organisation were behind it all made it seem all the more real, especially in these worrying times. A breathtaking adventure. Respect to all the droids responsible!

No, it's not but it's good. the Dead Man, tale of the Dead Man,  Necropolis and the rest of the Bloodline stories are the greatest. Although Total War can be considered a Bloodline story cos of Nimrod, all Dredd stories eventually bleed into one anyway.

Don't know about "the greatest", but it's certainly a cracker and the story that finally got me buying the Prog again after ten years.

I loved Total War, but for the greatest Dredd saga, I believe we're right in the middle of it - the Democracy-America (Fork: Total War)-Origins-Mutant Rights saga, and wherever it leads us.  

Other than that, it has to be Kraken-Dead Man-Necropolis for me, with Block Mania-Apocalypse War and Cal Files-Pit-Call of Duty-Scorpion Dance following close behind.

Frendz-Narcos coulda been a contender, but it never quite got going.

 Its difficult to choose out of all the epics from the early days.I cant choose.


 There is a huge amount i havent read.


 I would also say the current arc is very very good .Its not a sprawling adventure with a high body count but its all about character development and the evolution of Mega city One as a whole.


 So i say its possibly the best for completely different reasons than i would say The Apocolypse War was the best for example.


 Surely the best introduction to any new reader is for them to read Origins as its the whole history of the whole history of the whole set up ?

No. Origins was fun for those of us already acquainted with Dredd, since we had wondered about all that history stuff and it was nice to finally see it. But I suspect that new readers might find it a poor introduction. better to start them off with something like The Pit or the Apocalyspe War. Not too much backstory for either tale, and both set up the character pretty well.

I still haven't read a Dredd series to match America for sheer emotional punch, it's unforgettable that story and it's easily the one I'd pass onto someone to try and sell the whole idea of Dredd to them.

I loved the Apocalypse War, but the whole Bloodline / Necropolis thing is A1 too. And I haven't forgotten about Judgement Day myself, I just think it's shit
