Croup and Vandemar

Been watching and about to read again; Neverwhere.

The two thugs that go round to kill the girl in the recent and superb Buttonman and eventually get blown up in the caravan, did they have much in common or were they a wink to Croup and Vandemar?

(If nothing in common at all, I'll just put it down as more nofuture head stuff!!)
