Hi All,
Just thought i'd mention that whilst browsing through the channels i noticed the first 4 ep's of "The Wire" are showing on Virgin on demand (the free bit!). I've never seen it myself (although that'll change after tonight), but as a big fan of The shield, i'm told this is equal to it or even a bit better. so there we are.
Cheers,
Rob.

They are different beasts, but the Wire is definitely better for the long-game viewer.
It's like a tv version of crack cocaine - addiction is guaranteed.
Live forever or die trying

AS D by B says, totally different, but so good in their own way.

Yip We've OD on The Wire four series in as many months, worried about series 5 now we're coming to the end of 4.

It just gets better and better, and is unstoppably addictive. I watched the whole thing in less than 2 months, I just couldn't help myself.
Season 4 was probably my favourite, but all 5 are amazing.

I miss it already :(

Wahed it  and don't like as much as 'Law and Order' SVU'.

I've just got to the start of the sixth series in a mammoth Shield-a-thon. It's good, but not a patch on  The Wire which, for my galactic groat, snatched the crown of "best telly programme ever" from the once unsurpassable Deadwood.

The first episode might lure you into thinking it's yet another alky-cop-married-to-the-job-loses-his-wife-but-gets-results. Stick with it: it's anything but.

So The Wire series Five anyone know when we poor topboxer will see it?

Not sure what you mean by "topboxers", but as none of the other series have been shown on a sensible channel, DVD or bittorrent are your only real hopes. Amazon have just sent me a pre-order ad e-mail for the DVDs at £28.98. Annoyingly, the box has a different look to the oher 4.

Thought a couple of the series made it to Uk tv at some level, could be mistaken and mixing it up with the Shield which I was following at the time, I certianly watch the latter 3 Wire series on DVD from those nice people @ Lovefilm, don't know if I can wait for it to come around via them.

As far as I know it's only ever been shown on FX over here, which is where the fifth series is currently showing.
We never really die.

News for Glasgow Wire heads : The GFT is screening 'The Wire' (no mention of what bits, presumably not all of it) with a talk by David Simon afterwards. It's on September 18th.
