Anyone else seen Series five?
I thought the last episode was such a cop out, and they all lived happily ever after, well the good guys anyway, it  went against the grain of the whole five series, seem like it was a Bladerunner ending tagged on to keep the suits happy.. god knows what would happen if they done this to Deadwood!
apart from that bloody marvelous...

Yup. There was a lot of the usual good stuff in it, but overall I thought it was a major letdown. There was one key thread that ran through the whole series (I'm sure you can guess what) that was so mind-bogglingly stupid it tarnished my enjoyment of what surrounded it. It should've been longer too, as there were a lot characters who were unceremoniously dropped: I think I saw Cutty in two scenes or something.

Still head and shoulders above most stuff on't telly.
We never really die.

Proudhuff

Agreed, while i thought the end of
Omar
was brillant piece of WTF! telly, I couldn't help thinking it was a 'how are we gonna tie up this feckin loose ending?' too

The
sweeping of everything under the carpet
was what might have happened, but it would have leaked somehow, somewhere, which is what I hoped the newspaper were on hand for in the series. they would have brought down the whole edifice, great journalism, but then the usual sleaze mongers would have crawled back out into their 'usual' places, that was how I thought it was going to end, so disappionted indeed with the
Disney ending.
I'm a little late to the party on the Wire, I only recently finished season 1 and I'm now three episodes into no. 2, but I gotta say I love it. It's got a mean sense of humour you don't get in other cop shows, e.g. McNulty working the jurisdiction to dump all the bodies on the Major, purely out of spite. Brilliant....
You're at the precipice Tony, of an enormous crossroads.

ooh, it gets better!

Amsterdam, that's all I'm saying!

I liked how season 2 is basically all about Valchek getting pissed off about his stupid stained glass window... :)

I think they only barely got season 5 made, and had to drop the episode numbers to save money. Cutty was a real miss, and there was gonna be a plot about
Cheese being Randy's father
too.
And that thing you speak of, yeah.
I never believed for one minute that Lester would go along with it all.
That's my only misgiving in 5 years worth of Wire though.
Gotta disagree with the Huffster about the finale though, I loved it.
Michael becoming the new Omar, Dukie becoming the new Bubbles, Valchek becoming the new fucking Chief! Poetry.
I finally finished it. Fantastic stuff. I can see the points made earlier, that some of the character endings were a little too happy, and I found the whole serial killer storyline tough to swallow at first, but they made it work, mainly by acknowledging the consequences. Also,
the moment where Omar jumps out the window and disappears is one of the coolest things I've ever seen on TV. That "Oh shit" look on Chris's face afterwards. Brilliant.
Devons Daddy

i have purchased the entire set, on DVD for far too little groats.

though i have only watched season 1 esp 1 i know its only to be watched only after number one son has gone to bed! or downloaded to the itouch for personal viewing.

plenty of sex and violence, swearing etc may make the "whole on the commute to work not quite correct if you get some granny looking over your shoulder sort of thing."

but i shall be make the effort to give it an entire season viewing based on the hiveminds feelings, which have yet to giude me wrongly.
I AM VERY BUSY!
PJ Maybe and I use the same dictionary, live with it.

NO 2000ad no life!

Reeeeallllly late to this party, but we just got around to watching the very first episode last night.

If you thought episode one was good, you're in for a real treat-- commonest criticism of the show is it takes too long to get going (but when it does, it really does...)

Loved this, loved the Shield too, which I think has the best and most satisfying ending of a TV drama I've seen.

I'd say The Wire is possibly one of the best TV shows ever but the Shield is the best cop show ever, if that makes sense.

Richmond Clements

That's good to hear. I thought the writing in this episode was astounding- beginning the series with an extended scene of two men sitting on a step talking was a brave and brilliant move.
And if it gets better than this, well, I cannot wait!
