It's completely cat-ist. "Okay kitty, you don't count as an observer, into the 50/50 gassing box you go".

I will now pick holes in Einsteins thought experiments regarding trains and torches.

Probably not helping matters, but if we're moving onto jokes now...

Grmph. That LOLSCHROEDINGERSCAT is an invalid use of the many-worlds hypothesis.

This is a cool thread. You guys are so brainy. It's a privilege to be in such mentally alert company. I have nothing to contribute to this thread.

I was reading a book called Paradigms Regained, which put forward a new theory that the author preferred to the multiple universes one. Sadly i didn't understand it. But anyway, I also saw a copy of the New Scientist that said the sub-atomic world is not quite as weird as we thought it was - i meant to buy it, but forgot.
So, I really lack the hard facts here but wish i didn't, and have always regretted not picking up that New Scientist (not even sure what issue it was, so i can't find it on e-bay). Can anyone fill in the huge gaps in my personal education? Because it seems to be good news for physicists, who want things to be easy to understand, but bad news for us  science fiction fans, who really, really want there to be parallel universes.

"No, but I know exactly where I was."

Heh!I hadn't heard that one...

New Scientist article - when did you see it roughly?I might have access to it.

Aha! Here we go. (In fairness it wouldn't have killed me to find this before posting my last message, but there you go)

I wish I'd been a physicist.  That's where it all went wrong, you know.
