House of Usher

I know a few members of this message board read The Walking Dead, and I was just wondering what the rest of you make of it all.

Do you think Robert Kirkman has let a few too many of his characters slip off this mortal coil without developing them properly first?

I'm proposing that anyone contributing to this thread should presume that anyone reading it has already read issue #48 at least. It does say "SPOILERS!!" in the title after all.

Is this how you use the spoiler tags?

Evidently I don't know properly how to use spoiler tags!

Just use it like this: [SPOILERS] [/SPOILERS] replacing the square brackets with the angled brackets of course. Like so.

Mardroid

Or not.

Whoops.
Lets see if this works.

I use lower case. Is it not case sensitive?
"bULLshit Mr Hand man!"
"Man, you come right out of a comic book. "

Ok. The word is 'spoiler' not 'spoilers'.

Numpty that I am, and I've used it lots of times.

House of Usher

Anyway, what do regular Walking Dead readers think of Robert Kirkman killing off 'all' his regular characters before their stories got to be played out properly?

After a long time of searching I finally tracked down a copy of this on Ebay, only for the bloody thing to be too expencive with post.
Can anyone here tell me how long this title lasted, I thing it was two but Im not sure.
If anyone has a copy and wants to get rid, please contact me!
I wonder if the Paul Scott listed as a contributor is our own PVS?

Cheers

David

I think a cull was in order as the cast was too big and it was difficult to keep track of who was doing who etc. I was getting a bit bogged down in the prison so I'm glad they are out in the field. That said 49 was a pretty dull issue.

I have heard that the boy will now become the focus and I don't know if that means dad is going to buy the farm. It's a good comic but not as good as it has been.

Mardroid

I use lower case. Is it not case sensitive?

I don't think it matters but lower case is fine.
I just wrote it in caps to emphasize the word required.{/SPOILER]

Ok... Better put down something thread related-

I grabbed 3 of the earlier issues from the library. I noticed the quick killing off of characters too. It makes sense with this genre. As for the development of character before hand- I actually got quite a good handle on the characters before they died, but maybe that's something that changes later.

Interestingly the most shocking killings weren't the zombies either. Those little girls in the prison for example. Yikes.)

Mardroid

Heh. Just noticed the } bracket.
Great test that.
Mardroid

And there's your answer. I was wrong, lower case it is.

House of Usher

Oh, I quite agree that we got a good handle on who those characters were before they died. I was just sorry that their stories are over already, because in terms of both reader-identification and the effort that goes into creating characters, they're a wasted resource.

I think they all had potential as characters. Now they're dead, Robert Kirkman has got to come up with new characters to keep his comic book going. As a reader, I was following the adventures of some characters I already knew and liked and cared about, and now they're gone, and the stories that might have been told with them can't be told anymore.

It's Robert Kirkman's comic book, not mine, so it's up to him what he does with his characters. I'll carry on reading anyway because it's a good comic. It's just that the story he's now telling is a different one from the story I wanted to be reading.

Thoughts?
