Can someone explain the icons at the side of posts to me?

Yup, I'm a tickie! Is there a guide to the stange Betelguisian icons at the side of message posts? You know, these ones:

This un, that does nowt;

This little bugger with a star;

Cor! This one's red! And some move about!?!

There's loads more. Is there a guide to what each one means? Please put me out of my misery!

Ha! The little git with the star means that I've posted in the topic... therefore, Watson, the little blighter without a star means I haven't posted yet...

Now to work out the red ones...
