Never been there myself, but some friends and family have.

There's supposed to great sking there and what supposed to be every type of climate from Vocanic, desert, verdant, to snowy.

Great place to be if you like "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". Infact the filming of "The Hobbit " should be underway.

For more inforamtion see the films 'Once Were Warriors" and it's sequel " What Becomes of the Broken Hearted"

so have i,

it is in fact a rather highly considered option for  sailors in the criuse ship industry, i know a few whom have found NZ to be the choice of base locations.

it has a charm which brings together the best parts of many nations, good luck to you.

My Neighbours move out there a few years ago, cam eback 18 months later.  Theydid enjoy it though but couldn't make it work financially sadly.

Very best of luck to you all.  My NZ family and friends love it down there and my wife spent 6 months down there and enjoyed it.

I'd like to go there one day but would probably go when i'm older for a longer stay.

I went to armageddon in Auckland. I had a beer with some giant orcs, eat my own body weight in free ice cream, picked up loads of bargain reading material and nearly bought a bloody great sword until my roomie pointed out I'd never get it through US customs, let alone all the way home. It was a cracking day of much needed geekery after a couple months on the road. It's somewhat ironic that the UK conventions always seem to be just out of reach, yet I managed to do one as far from home as it's possible to get!
Hope it's all going well for you out there thinky. Wish I could join you!   :D
