Quote from: "radiator"I've been having a play around with SketchUp by Google. Free, fun and intuitive.

Thanks for the tip - this took over an hour to download, but it's great fun and easy to use! I've never touched a modelling programme before, and I can foresee endless lost hours noodling about with this!

Do a bit of Photoshop and some Manga Ex but now't like Mr Jim Campbell. Very good indeed. More please !

I thought I'd move this over to the creator forum and bump with Kev's Sketchup lawmaster:

So what have you done recently?

Is it possible to get together so 3D models for folks to use as reference for 2000AD stories?
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

I use sketchup all the time and think it's brilliant.  There is the argument that I spend as much time building stuff as I would just drawing it all out repeatedly- but I actually quite enjoy doing it as well- and I get to reuse a lot of props and sets again as they're so easy to switch around into something new.

I've made several half hearted attempts at a Lawmaster, but I've never persevered- mainly because I think I've tried to stray away from the classic version a bit too far and they've ended up looking a bit rubbish instead.  I think Kev's really nailed it though.
Pffft...

Juts saw this on youtube- made in skecthup- its a little crude but there's great potential there

Heres my Tie Bomber made in Sketchup, was imported into 3D MAX and used in the game I helped produce.

Here it is in action.

New version of Zbrush-type app, Sculptris has just been released. Free - it's in a slightly odd position of being acquired by Pixologic, who make zbrush, but it's still free.

Now available for Mac as well.

I've written up a small bit about how I use 3D for both creating an environment and camera angles. Might be of interest to anyone who hasn't used 3D in the past but is thinking about it. There's also a small bit about my first use of Z brush on one of my models a couple of post down.

Alex I just sneaked your post over to this thread, as it fits nicely and I linked to your previous posts above.

That model looks spiffy - how long did it take to make?

Ok, sorry. I was bound to get my threads mixed up eventually.
The machine and room took about an hour. No textures applied because in this case it's unecessary. All that detailing should come through in the painting.

This is a finished panel from the Outpost 2 comic strip using underlying 3D to create the shot.
Check the previous post to see the barebones model before it was painted into the scene.

Not sure what the crossover of 3D/Ipad users is, but Autodesk have released a free for limited time app
