XBox Live help!

I've finally got round to getting a wireless transmitter for my Xbox 360 so I can join Xbox Live but I'm having problems making my existing profile be my xbox live profile.

My existing profile is called Pete and has 8853 glorious, hard earned gamer points.

When I say I want to join xbox live it makes me sign out then asks for my email address and password that I used on the windows site. This signs me in as my petewells profile which has no gamer points and was simply used to get my boy's xbox repaired.

Can anyone tell me how I remove/change profiles so that my pete one is my xbox live one? I'm very confused!

I've got a second profile on mine from when it was getting de-red  ringified, I tried deleting it but never figured out how to. Xbox Live always signs me in under my proper account (MagicBeanz, hit me up with a friendy, kids!)
Have you tried the recover gamertag option? I've never had to use it so I'm not sure, I think you have to be signed up on Xbox.com though.
I'm going online tonight so I'll have a fiddle about and see.

Yay, I finally sorted this out. I dunno what the buggery I was doing wrong.

A quick question, the gamer points that I worked so hard to get, do they not work like Microsoft Points? That's why I made such a song and dance about getting my correct profile signed up 'cos I thought I'd have over 8000 points to spend. Am I stoopid?

Amazon sell MS Points (and cheap X-Box Live 12 month memberships.)  You'll find them under 'X-Box accessories' in the games section of the site.

I strongly recommend you fine folks download R-Type Dimensions. It has both 1 & 2 and it doesn't involve a crappy 3d graphics makeover if you don't want it to.
