Anybody any idea what the meaning is for the name 'Gruoch'?
Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.

Kev Levell

Do you mean Grouch?

As in Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street/Muppets (whatever - he's a Jim Henson creature thing I'm sure)

Although Gruoch is also a scottish name, something to do with lady Macbeth - but I hated studying Shakespeare so that's anyone's guess!

I, Cosh

A grouch is someone who is habitually crabbit.
We never really die.

Whereas Gruoch was a Scottish queen.

Eric Plumrose

Yup, it's the Queen's name-meaning I'm after.
Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.

It's a toughie - I've never seen it used anywhere else.  Sometimes personal names are just that, names, rather than having any deep meaning.  If she was Irish, I'd be tempted to suggest a derivation from Gruaige (hair), but that'd need some more elaboration to make a name, and I don't know enough (anything) about how Scots Gaelic is pronounced to make any claims (never mind how it was pronounced in the 11th century).

'GROUCH'

A person who is has been disturbed to the point of having a reputation for being in bad mood all the time.

Otherwise I don't know, but the wiki description for that same character from Seame street sort of says it all.

As I recall reading somewhere the Jim Henson based this character on waiter at a returaunt he used to attend on regular basis. Th water was a unpleasnt character, that he thought was funniy enough to make into one of his later Muppet characters.

While on this subject, I used to have one of the Muppet books or magazines withthis courful depiction of Osgars trashcan and how it was actualley bigger inside than out. Like the Tardis. It had these spiraling along the inner side of the trashcan can descending down to it's bachelar pad below.

I wonder if can find this on the net or perhaps Ebay....

My tribute to Oscar in SPORE. Not poerfect but I think a good enough attempt.

ThryllSeekyr

Awesome!

Does Mills know Henson was using his characters?

See also:  Big Bird = Satanus; Bert and Ernie = Ro-Jaws and Hammerstein; Elmo =  Torquemada.

Roger Godpleton

Oscar was thrown out of Grouchville cos he was a massive racist.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

Dark Jimbo

Thyrllseeker, you bring joy to my life - you must be the only man in the world who understands things only as they relate (or not) to Slaine...
