Stupidly, I've just put my thumb through the screen of my laptop. Any idea how much this is going to cost me to get fixed?

It'll be fine, they scab over and heal after a bit.

Oh, you meant the laptop!

You may judge me, but at least it wasn't a coax-it-out-with-cheese gag.
Nobody warned me I would be so awesome.

SmallBlueThing

At the moment, I'm within seconds of trying the fix the bloody thing with cheese.

ARGH!

I just got a replacement screen for my dell.

Its a 17 incher and glossy. screen cost 100 quid. fitting was 20.

a 15 inch screen should be between 70 - 90 quid depending on make model etc...

Can i ask just HOW you put your thumb through it?

Wow, that's mental - I did exactly the same thing to my own laptop last night! What a headfuck.  No idea of the cost yet, I'm scared to take it to the repair shop.

Oh yeah, and I did it like this - my screen was dodgy anyway and often stopped working. The only way to fix it was to flex the screen a bit with your hand. I just did it too much

Cheers Buddy, though I think that's considerably cheaper than what my local place charges, and my laptop is an unusual brand too.  So I have a feeling i may have to pay a little bit more than you. We'll see how it goes, though.

Sorry Spook couldn't resist.

Hmmm, y'see in my head it goes like this:

Spooky and Jaysus were looking at certain websites whilst partaking in some 'gentleman's exercise.' At the conclusion of said activity, their other hand (which is loving holding the laptop) clasps tightly shut, resulting in their thumb cracking the screen.

I have to ask: How the hell did you manage to do some thing like this?
I ask because even thought it sounds like a silly thing to do it is for that exact reason a situation I would be likely to find my self in. So need to know how to avoid

I think I've explained that in the post above yours Tweak. But, as it happened to both boarders at, one would assume, the same time on the same night, I have to wonder if there was some kind of Leslie Grantham type set up going on with Spooky and Jayzus?

Noooo! I don't think so. But I do think if your description is correct you are all doing it wrong

Heh- no, no onanistic excess involved. My wife was typing an email, and trying to phrase something properly. She was sitting next to me on the sofa (or "Chesterfield" as my mother-in-law would have it, driving me to bloody distraction) and I had a cat on my lap. She asked me a question, I reached over, held the keyboard with my left hand and the screen with my right. I turned the laptop to face me, and my thumb cracked the screen. Little "TAK!" noise, little crack across the middle, big black thumb print at the side and just white space below the crack. Argh! I didn't grab it, didn't push very hard, it just... happened. Very annoying.

I'm being quoted £125- £130 for a new screen and installation. Though I have a friend who's willing to do it for cost plus beer. Cheapest he can find online is £68 inc delivery.
