Well, I went in with pretty low expectations after hating Death Proof, and reading mixed reviews.  But, it turns out this is actually a whole load of fun. Dumb as a mule perhaps, but still fun. Self-indulgent wank is kept to a minimum, and instead we get a respectable amount of Tarantino violence, and the comedy ain't bad either; Michael Fassbender as a stiff-upper-lipped English captain is a hoot.
You're at the precipice Tony, of an enormous crossroads.

Professor Bear

It goes on a bit, and the modern 'Tarantinoesque' trappings didn't seem to sit well with others, but it was fun enough.

Pete Wells

Saw it last night and thought it was a hoot, totally not what I was expecting.  The tension at times was toe curling and I thought Christoph Waltz, who played Col. Landa was fantastically scary.

The last scene was bloody awful too, ouch!

Fantastic fun - perhaps my only critisicsm is that it's a tad too long-winded for its own good. Laughed out loud repeatedly, which is something I rarely do. The characters are all fabulous creations and there are some killer lines. Quite a ballsy script, too, with several twists and turns that I genuinely didn't see coming.

Quite a different film to what I was expecting from the trailer, though. It isn't really a film about the Inglorious Basterds, as such - instead the Basterds are simply one of several sub-plots that make up the whole.

I really loved this, it was as D. Jimbo said, much more then the trailer made it out to be. Quite like Pulp Fiction in that it was about several interconnecting characters and there stories. The only problem I had was with  Eli Roth who can about as well as Tarantino himself. There lots of what Tarantino dose best, mindless violence and a dam fine soundtrack.

Yeah, Eli Roth was pretty annoying, but thankfully he wasn't really a big part. I did wonder how a skinny little fecker like him was supposed to have earned a nickname like "The Bear Jew".

cos he's hairy & gay.

A lot better than I expected. It's probably about as restrained as we can expect QT to be these days. If he is trying too hard, then at least it's because he wants to impress other people and not just his own kool-aid brigade. The discussions about language were surprisingly enjoyable.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

PsychoGoatee

Saw Inglourious Basterds last night, loved it! Some great comedy with effective drama, QT does it again.

Plus it features one of the best chapter titles in movie history:
Revenge of the Giant Face
.

Almost had a triple-bill at the flicks today, what with THE TIME TRAVEL(L)ER'S WIFE at 11.10, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS at 13.20, and SCARFACE at 16.45. The latter I was denied by the Souster woman, however; although never having seen it and not being a De Palma fan, she may well have done me a favour.

And yea, as noted above, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS is t'riffic fun. It is overlong but then, as with DEATH PROOF's indulgences, that may well be deliberate as it's Tarantino's Spaghetti Westachtung. The more serious scenes don't always balance well with the inherent daftness but it's a bonkers propaganda movie akin to any number of Ratzi superhero comics from the 1940s, albeit one that's sixty-five years too late. It's also a sly dig at Hollywood's rewriting history. Well, almost.

Now, Quentin. For fuck's sake, GROW UP and make a proper adult film.
Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.

PsychoGoatee

Scarface is great, you should certainly give it a watch sometime.

Eric Plumrose

I'll watch just about any old shit but if I'll often find an excuse not to watch anything by De Palma, Peckinpah, or Polanski.

The deciding factor might depend on De Palma's wife at the time he made SCARFACE. And if he casts her as a whore in it.

Nancy Allen is great, especially in RoboCop. :D But no, she's not in Scarface.

Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, screenplay by Oliver Stone fresh off of Conan the Barbarian... what more could one need?

Goaty

went to see Subtitled version of it last night, Oh I like it! that Col. Landa was so brilliant, great character..
Film maybe bit long, but i enjoy it, the opening scene was great! and the bar scene too...

it does got good twists I didnt expected!

I do love Hugo Stiglitz's intro!
But his fist down the Nazi's throat
:o :o :o

Did laughs sometime,
even at the scene where three Basterds try to speak italians! lol...
the ending scene was perfect as left the cinema with smile! :)

I knew this not. I may have to make an exception to my general avoidance of gangster movies.

Cheers!
