What was this strip?

I remember, way way back in probably the early 80s(?), a story about a couple of guys fighting back against robots who had taken over the world. One I think was called Tate, and one had a big hammer. Did I make this up? Was it a dream? Can anyone enlighten me?

A 2000ad strip you mean? Well I've been reading through the progs from prog 1 since the start of the year and I don't remember the name Tate. The only thing I can think it might be is Colony Earth, which was indeed about a couple of guys fighting an alien invasion of robots with one of their own robots which they'd captured and reprogrammed to fight with them. I think... TBH it was a pretty crap strip so I kind of just skim-read it and didn't give it too much attention. But this is the only thing that comes close to what you describe so its probably the one.

Don't remember that one in 2000ad. There was a story called Galaxy Killers in which Johnny took payment of a starship after aiding some aliens but other than that... Maybe it was in Starlord.

Not even sure if it was in 2000AD. Very dim memories, but I remember that I loved it. Still, I was probably about 6 at the time. Thanks for trying to help though folks.

The Stront strip was indeed from the earliest issues of Starlord - The ruling robot McIntyre had tricked Johnny & Wulf into aiding total genocide of the world's human population, so they took his assistant Crynge.

I may have a leaf through some old progs over the weekend for the other one!
