I leave computer on in my room, indefinailty sometimes. Except when away from the house. I think it's better this way.

Switching it on and off all the time usinges power and put more of strain on the system.

So, I left it downloading this demo for the last two days now.

I swear it would have been finished early this evening at five or six oclock.

I woke up this morning and checked the computer screen to find the downloading file and few other internet pages were missing.

It hasn't downloaded, it's not in the tempory folder where it was going before, neither is there any other evidence of it on my computer.

Can you imagine how pissed off I am. It's like somebody came into my room and did this to me on purpose, but as it may out I think it's just a fault of old computer that is really.

Though I'm still suspsicous it's foul play.

For the last few hours I been sitting here, reading the message baord and tryiong to log on the FIle Planet to start the download again.

Now they are not allowing anymore people on the cue.

Something like this message.

Where it wasn't doing that the day before yesterday.

As I've already tried downaloding these files outside of FilePlanet, they only cut off as the server resets.

Even when I lower the firewall.

I think I'm entitled to after waitng almost three days and suppose I could wait extra ten days before my braod band is fully repleneished.

Defeats the purpose of last two days.

FilePlanet is one of the worst places I've ever visited. It used to be awesome before they introduced the queuing system (around 10 years ago), but now its adverts, queuing systems, faulty searchs, premium membership, its awful.

Here is my usual method for finding files outside of the horrendous FilePlanet:

  • Go to File Planet and find the file you're trying to download.
  • Find the filename of the file you're trying to download. This might be on the download info page or you may have to begin the download itself before you'll find out what it is. In the case of Batman Arkham Asylum Demo, this is "BMDemo_installer.exe".
  • Put that filename in quotes and send it into google like so.
  • Browse through the links provided until you find a direct download which actually works at a reasonable speed.
  • If this fails, considering one of the distributed torrents, or try using filemirrors.com, though thats usually less successful than google.

Other things to consider:

  • If you're using Internet Explorer, don't. It'll run out of memory, crash, delete files, jam up and generally be a terrible experience. Download and use Firefox, Opera or Google Chrome instead. Any browser is better than IE, and learning to use the new browser isn't hard and totally worth it. This is the single most important piece of advice.

  • Consider using a download manager such as the DownThemAll Firefox Extension or the external Go!Zilla download manager. These managers let you download from multiple sources at once (similar to torrenting), pause and resume downloads.

  • Go to SamKnows.com's exchange search and look up your local telephone exchange and what internet services its enabled for.
If you're currently on a modem or lower end ADSL connection, check to see if your exchange has been enabled for ADSL Max or has an LLU Operator Presence, and which operators are available.
If your exchange has been LLU enabled, google for the service provider its enabled for and put your phone number in their availability checker. Even if you can only get a 512-2mbit line right now on standard ADSL, the LLU may be able to get you higher speeds at cheaper rates.

I've got it now.

Only after a week of downloading the same demo nearly fives times over.

One of downloads took about nearly four days.

I'm not sure if it's the monthly replenishment of my braod band connection or maybe what ever download client I was using finally decided to play the way I wanted to in the first place.

VinceBot, your right about me using Internet Explorer, as it's supported by the software thats been installed with my computer.

I think I'm taking a big risk changing over with out the help of a consultant and or a computer technician.

I have tried FireFox iun the past and it was causing more problems. I gues it takes a person understands machine code and designs computers to really own one.

Thanks for the assistance anyway. I will look into your advice, seeing as you took time to answer my request.

As for the game demo itself. Well, I had purchased Majesty it's predessesor about a month ago as a Steam download and was intrigued with it's playing style for a while and was eager to see the newer version which became available on Steam also as of the eighteennth of last month. Thats how long I have been trying to download the demo which was by the way. Not actualley availble from Steam either.

The newer version just happens to be more eye candy than the original. The graphics are all now 3d with trees, grass, and plants swaying gently in a virtual breeze. As it looks good, but not quite what the I saw in the preview on You-Tube. and I feel that I've seen it all before. So I'm not sure if I'll buy the game.

On my computer it responds alittle slowly. It's like moving underwater. Though the demo it self has proved to be addictive. It's a survail demoand I just can't manged to complete the entire tech buyilding tree before I've been informed that while I have done well to survive as far as I did, I did not beat it over all. Something I've been trying to do over the last two days.

Ialso been imagining what if thsi game was vbased on Mega City One. You know. Anyway, You might want to check out the game or demo your self and see what I mean. In short it's abit like Dungeon Keeper above ground. The inhabitants that you produce by placing down certtain types of buildings all have their own minds. You can't control them, but you can influence them by dropping attack, defend, explore and fear flags on certain locations. It's abit like watching film, but it is still fun to play.
