Mayo is fairly sparce when it comes to shops like that, there is a Sub City in Galway, but if you are on to them in Dublin that will cover them both I suppose.
The libraries are always a good route, contact http://www.iesltd.ie/ , Push yourself as a new Irish author especially as its a genre that not associated, like Sci Fi as well, with Irish literature.
They took a good few of my comics even though they were reprints, on the basis that they were published in Ireland. Worth a shot.

David - thanks, man. I hadn't thought of libraries but you're absolutely right, definitely worth a shot.

Cosh - thanks for the heads-up on the Scottish front.

:)

Just bumping this thread - anyone else care to list their local indie book shops, possibly winning a signed copy of FLU in the process?

I'm really grateful for all the help, thus far.  :)

Would Deadhead sell genre novels as well as comics and GNs?
I don't think it does books. There's a place just round the corner called Transreal which might be better suited.

Sorry, Hoo-Haa, didn't realise it was a novel as opposed to a graphic novel. I would definitely concur with The Cosh, Transreal is the place for you to try in Edinburgh. It's a great wee shop.

There are specialist librarian magazines/journals which review books and put out suggestions on what should be bought.

I'm also sure I've seen someone offer a printable request slip for libraries so people can ask a library to get a copy in (I know I have put in interlibrary loans for books they clearly liked the sound of and bought a copy). Can't hurt rustling up a few librarians and asking them their opinions on the next way to get it out there - it'd mean more sales, higher visibility and some lending fees too.
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Cheers, vzzbux!

And, Emp - libraries are definitely an option. Thanks for your post - I'll look into it.

I'm going to make a date for final suggestions (and access to the boarders' draw for a signed copy of the book) - 30th April 2010.

If you win, I'll contact you directly via PM to get your address and find out how you want the book signed.

Thanks again, everyone!  :)

In Cardiff, we've got this guy...

http://www.thecomicguru.co.uk/

I don't know if he's still got his shop in the arcade as I don't often go to that end of town, but he's got contact details and a trading address on his website.

That shop isn't there any more. Not that it necessarily means he's no longer trading.

There certainly is. Hello.

Anyway I'm an academic librarian in FE so might not be the market you're after. That said a couple of things I imagine you can do is send copies to you're local libraries and maybe offer to do a reading or something? Events like that can work on a local level at least?

Good idea! I've a signing coming up at a local film festival, then a tattoo convention!

After all that, I'll tackle the libraries!  :D

Thanks, guys! Your names go in the hat!  :)

Colin YNWA

Another local one really but a seminar at your local FE College about how you approach writing could also be a winner if relevant subjects are run at that College?

HOO-HAA

Thanks to everyone for posting such helpful suggestions on indie shops to approach, via facebook and various message boards. I've decided to route folks towards the 2000AD forums for the announcement of the winner of a signed copy of FLU. All contributors towards the various threads were entered into a hat and one lucky winner was drawn. That person is....

*drum roll*

Mr Colin_YNWA!

Colin, thanks for your help! If you fire me across your postal address via PM, I'll put a signed copy of FLU in the post for ye.

Thanks, again, to everyone who helped out with suggestions.
