And speaking of Buttonman as well Buttonman is elsewhere on this forum Arthur Ranson has some news about the potential, and its still very much only that, real Buttonman movie over at his blog

QuoteAs promised here is the latest news on possible movie. June 26th 2010 I heard that Dreamworks have renewed their option on Button Man which is good news - not the best possible but good. They are still considering it, it could still happen, it is not ruled out, the possibility remains. Fingers crossed.

So you never know. Would love to see this come into being

Devons Daddy

it deserves to be made,

it offers a complete package, worthy of a decent budget,
given some of the rubbish you see having money thrown at it.

few other scripts offer such a complete potentail.
if it does not get made in the next few years a more inferior but same style will get the nod (Robo-cop anyone?) then the oppurtunity fades.
I AM VERY BUSY!
PJ Maybe and I use the same dictionary, live with it.

NO 2000ad no life!

Hopefully we will not only get to see him writing letters to Tharg but also see his winning streak on Weakest Link too  ;)

Don't forget the birds, charity work and serial killing.

Maybe not that last one. For now!

The film poster would have to be done in Microsoft Paint.

Just to get this back on topic, the image on Arthur's site made me think... While Sean Bean is the best choice for Harry in my eyes, Bratt Pitt seems like a great choice for the role should it be switched to America (which let's face it, it probably sodding would.)

He's about the right age and certainly has the clout to give the film the exposure it, and our beloved comic, needs. Man, I hope this gets made...

Good to hear that another 2000AD property is being considered as a  possible film. Can only be good for Rebellion that Movie makers realize you have an established stock of Titles that can possibly be re made as films.

...and it's been in development for about four years so I wouldn't get hopes up.

I love Button Man and it's a good movie story but I personally suspect if it made it to the screens what they really want is the core idea and the rest won't really feel very like Button Man: Since the character doesn't wear a costume, there are no other distinctive designs for anything else, it's set anywhere in the contemporary world and we know little about Harry's background or personality outside of the 'The Game', the movie people would flesh it out in their own way, bring a charismatic well-known actor to the role, and make it more moral so as not to confuse movie audiences. The distinctive things about the original strip are it's genius premise, it's cold, hard amorality, and it's beautiful artwork - by virtue of the film medium, only one of these will make it through.

It needs to be osmosed through the membrane of time to the '70s and made by Walter Hill or Alan Pakula.

I think that given how The Losers and Jonah Hex have flopped at the box office this year, we'll see more adaptations marketed like Red is being done, as a contemporary thriller with almost no mention of its comic origins.

Now I bunged that snippet over to Bleeding Cool and they had clearly heard some whispers on this already, with Ranson's post confirming the rumours. So posted on it including:

QuoteIn the case of Button Man, Bleeding Cool were told that Dreamworks had hit the refresh button and stumped up the cash to keep a hold on it, and this week Arthur Ranson confirmed this on his blog.

QuoteI heard that Dreamworks have renewed their option on Button Man which is good news – not the best possible but good. They are still considering it, it could still happen, it is not ruled out, the possibility remains. Fingers crossed.

In all likelihood, then, they're going to be attaching writers, a director and maybe even actors to this thing in the coming months. Stay tuned.

So I thought I'd try and get some clarification on this last bit from Brendon Connelly (BC's new film guy):

Quote
QuoteIs that because this is what usually happens when they renew an option (as it suggests they are more serious about making it this time)?

Actually, they often do. But there is some specific information in this case that they're wanting to move on this one.

So we might start seeing a new round of announcements and casting speculation sooner rather than later (or never, as happened the first time round).
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Nice detective work Emp! This is sounding pretty hopeful then, would make a fantastic movie if they nail the tone.

I gonna have to change my name, thought i'd said something witty and insightful then.

Far as a Button Man movie goes i would prefer it didnt have a big budget but was a brit movie and a bit gritty(like Deadmans Shoes).
