There are some encouraging comments here about kids liking old B+W cartoon strips and films and the parents who encourage it.Kids dont have preconceived ideas about what they should or shouldnt like as they just like or dislike unconditionally but its possible to change their outlook by telling them that something is old and boring or better because its modern or in color as kids can be very impressionable but encouraging them to read B+W strips might help them to appreciate or like the medium of B+W comic art as otherwise they are unlikely to be exposed to it.

B+W artwork is not that enjoyable when its printed on yellowed paper as its the contrast between white and black that makes it work and its like lithographic photos that dont feature any tones as its only Black.

An update, well done to anyone who got picked:

QuotePrint Media Productions STRIP Magazine is on course for an October launch - still no actual date yet - and the first three strips in the STRIP Challenge, seeking to spotlight new talent, have been chosen. As the title's editor, I can report we had a terrific selection to choose from and while there were some entries that strayed wildly from the declared content of the magazine most of the submissions were in the right ball park as regards content. The first three creative teams have been informed of their success, but we still have to decide the next three.

STRIP Magazine, a monthly anthology adventure title, will include stories by Phil Hester, John McCrea, PJ Holden, James Hudnall and John Ridgway (among others). More information at www.printmediaproductions.com (currently re-directing to the title's blog)

Sigh. Found out about it too late to get a decent entry in. Bleagh.

I'm guessing it was no one here then? Or are people needing to keep it to themselves?

Still on track for an October release - a bit of a change in distribution but it all looks great:

QuoteSTRIP Magazine Issue One includes Black Ops Xtreme by John Freeman and PJ Holden; Warpaint by Phil Hester and John McCrea - the first episode will feature in an upcoming issue of Tripwire; Age of Heroes by James Hudnall and John Ridgway; Hookjaw, re-mastered by Jim Campbell and Gary Caldwell; 'Hush Hush' a prequel story to Stephen Walsh and Keith Page's Iron Moon graphic album; Recovery Inc. by Michael Penick and Dean Deckard; and the first winners of the Strip Challenge.

The first issue will also have features on the 1970s comic Action that originally published Hookjaw, written by Moose Harris; and an exclusive interview with PJ Holden by Matt Badham.

You certainly get a lot for your £2.99 with this. Still very much looking forward to it and hope that the initial comicbook only release doesn't hurt it too much. I do wonder how well it can do using only this channel. Mind people far wiser than me will have it all planned out I'm sure.

There are some comic shops that also sell on eBay (in fact some publishers do too - I'm sure I bought Dodgem Logic directly from Kitchen Sink Press on eBay. If this was me I'd set up an account on eBay to sell Strip magazine and GNs direct like that), so I suspect those who want a copy will be able to easily pick one up.

COMMANDO FORCES

I asked my local comic shop owner to get this in for me earlier today and we had quite an interesting conversation about British comics. His side was very informative, especially since he sells the stuff!

I also mentioned that I had had a look at the preview stuff on the web today and that I'm really looking forward to Black Ops Extreme  ;)

Is there any way to order this in the US? I haven't seen it in Previews.

I had a look but, alas it seems to be the UK only as far as I can tell. There is a Previews number but again it seems for UK retailers.

However it may be others know far better than I and that there are other ways of ordering. I do hope so.

Wow its great to finally have a date on this one seems like an age since we first got wind of it (well it is really isn't it). Fingers crossed it manages to find its audience, though if its just through comic shops I do wonder.

Still fingers crossed. Can't wait.

Colin YNWA

Okay so went into my LCS this afternoon to add this to my pull list. The bloke on the counter hadn't heard of it. Asked another bloke who had to go to the back to the manager who had seen it only cos it was added late to the Diamond list (so not in previews).

Okay so I know nowt about these things but one month before a release that is exclusive (from what we've learnt below) to comic shops and there's one at least were staff know very little about it yet.

This might be entirely normal. There might be plans to do a big push to market Strip, this might just be a damning statement on my LCS but taken at face value that isn't too good a sign.

As I say I want this to succeed but people will need to know its out there and get there hands it. Hope that's happening? Whats other people experience of this to date?

Here's the number for UK ordering,  • To order the print magazine, give your UK comic shop this Diamond Previews order code: JUL117915.

Thanks for asking for it Colin_YNWA and Commando Forces. Yes we are twin brothers Emperor, cheers!
