COMMANDO FORCES

Whoever buys it first should take that honour with a pic of them reading it. Obviously if that happens to be Buttonman he can post a pic of him reading it while having a meal  ;)

It's available to buy digitally right now - for you ipad owners...

http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/strip-magazine-1/id474222695?mt=8

Have to say this is a little but troubling. Not the fact that its available now on iTunes that's good, rather the way we've found out. We're a fairly comics literate bunch, people seem pretty clued in on what's happening in the greater world of comics and there are folk here who have been waiting for this comic to come out for well over a year now. So how do we find out that its available online...

...one of the creators has to let us know.

Now we may have missed something, there maybe a big push about to happen that we've not aware of but have to say to date the marketing for this seems to have been a bit pants.

We've had a couple of stories (one from myself I must admit) of comic shops being only vaguely aware of its release. These are to date the sole hardcopy outlets from which it will be available and they don't seem to know. Then the online version seems to seek out. Now I might be missing something, or many things here but I worry about how this will find its audience if its apparently barely sticking its head above the parapet?

Spaceghost

The lack of awareness is a bit worrying.

I was in my local and normally very clued up comic shop yesterday (OK Comics in Leeds, it's great folks!) and they had no idea when Strip is due out. They had heard of it but didn't even realise it had got off the ground. They had also never heard of the Iron Moon graphic novel (is this even out yet?).

I told them Strip is due out next week so hopefully they'll be getting it in.

I got mine on iTunes yesterday.  Interesting content, but a bit non-plussed with the app itself compared to something like Comixology.  Should also be Newsstand integrated as a new app out now...

John Freeman has been quite busy on Twitter letting people know what's going on (alright I've seen that from
PJ).  Anyone interested in the magazine, and especially retailers, should be following him.

Yes you get to buy Butt'man a meal AND take his photo!
DDT did a job on me

COMMANDO FORCES

You'll get a prize if you win my December comp  ;)

I asked my comic shop owner about it and he's getting 8 in and most of those are for people who have asked, me included. He mentioned that British comics do not sell compared to the Yank stuff and it's always a risk buying the stuff in. Clint was a major flop for him and so he's out of pocket with that, which is not good news for a business, especially these days.

I think not going into Smiths and the like is a big gamble but I hope it succeeds.

QuoteApologies for not coming back to this thread - been a bit busy chasing couriers etc. However, just to confirm - STRIP Magazine Issue 1 will be on sale in UK comic shops from 2nd November. Unfortunately it arrived too late last week to be included in Diamond shipments for this week.

However, because of the slippage, the e-edition is now on sale before the print edition. So for those of you with iPads, you can buy it via http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/strip-magazine-1/id474222695?mt=8

And if you need reminding what to expect:

Quote:
STRIP Magazine is an all-ages adventure anthology comic featuring some great art and stories from some brilliant creators including PJ Holden (Judge Dredd), John McCrea (Hitman, The Boys), Michael Penick (Insurrection), John Ridgway and many more!

Offering a range of strip stories, comics news, interviews and features, plus a fully re-mastered version of the classic British comic strip Hookjaw, this is a first issue you will not want to miss!

STRIP Magazine Issue One includes Black Ops Xtreme, drawn by PJ Holden; Warpaint by Phil Hester and John McCrea; Age of Heroes by James Hudnall and John Ridgway; Hookjaw, re-mastered by Jim Campbell and Gary Caldwell; 'Hush Hush' a prequel story to Stephen Walsh and Keith Page's Iron Moon graphic album; Recovery Inc. by Michael Penick
and Dean Deckard; and the first winners of our special Strip Challenge, Graham and David Stoddard

PLUS - a look back at 1970s classic British comic Action; and an exclusive interview with comic artist PJ Holden!

This digital edition is produced in association with ROK Comics - please note, the free poster is only available with the print edition, until we work how to stick paper down one of these fibre optic cables...

Much thanks to everyone who has posted info on where they are ordering from. I've added web links to all the shops who've said they're stocking STRIP Magazine to our blog at http://stripcomicmagazineuk.blogspot.com/

A number of people have tried in vain to use the main web site subscription page - we're painfully aware of the issues with this and hope they will be resolved by early next week (beginning 31st October).

I had never heard of this either, but they had a few copies of it in FP tonight.

Hmm. If you want people to buy your stuff, you really need to be pushing the message out to them, not waiting for them to pull it in.
We never really die.

M.I.K.

I think the main problem is that it's a British comic.

It's not available in American shops, so there's little point mentioning it on American websites, which is probably where UK retailers are getting most of their information from when not reading about stuff in Previews.

If they were in the habit of frequenting UK comic sites, then they'd certainly know about it, because it's had quite a few mentions on all the ones I look at. It's been mentioned on the Forbidden Planet International site, it's been mentioned in the Comics UK forums, it's been mentioned on DownTheTubes loads, (not really surprising, that one), and it's obviously getting spoken about here. It's also been spoken about on quite a few blogs by UK comic creators.

There's plenty of information out there, but maybe the retailers need to be given it more directly.

Goosegash

Anyone got a date for Issue 4 yet? I'm assuming it'll be in the next couple of weeks, fingers crossed.

Also, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but it looks like Strip is finally due to hit the newsagents in with Issue 7 in May, although it won't be in supermarkets yet. Still, given the difficulties involved in getting new titles onto the shelves at all, I think that's pretty good going.

Spaceghost

Congratulations Rich! Loved your strip in the last issue.

Now where the hell is issue 4? Shouldn't it have been out about 3 weeks ago?

Well done Richmond. I think Black Ops in the first 3 issues lacked a bit of editorial control, possibly due to who was writing it. Some of the dialogue was excruciatingly bad. That said, I think the series has legs so I'm glad to see another writing it, especially one of our own.
