Excellent! This could make a really good tv show, even if it just ends up being a one-off adaptation of the first book. Hope they do a good job of it, there's no real reason why it can't work brilliantly.

Van Dom

Cool! There's just not enough people called Dirk in popular fiction for my liking! Looking forward to this!

Keep Harry Enfield away from it.

Van Dom

Oh fuck yeah.
Who would be good in the role.

Alan Davies perhaps (ducks for cover!!!)

...that's not actually too bad an idea.

The Legendary Shark

They'll probably go for James Nesbitt, as usual. Hmph.

I'd quite go for Hugh Dennis in this.  I love Dirk Gently, but Teatime is even better.

Ideal Dirk: Equal parts Stephen Fry, Johnny Vegas and Milton Jones

True, but it'd be funny!

Is it wrong to say I preferred the Dirk Gently books to Hitchhikers?
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

I can't actually remember anything about the Gently books other than the fact that I've read them. It would have been about 15 years ago because it was just after having read the Hitchhiker books for the first time. While those books have lingered, and I've re-read them several times, I've never felt particularly compelled to revisit Dirk Gently. I suppose they must not have made that much of an impression.

I'll probably do it now though, before this hits, if for no other reason than to pedantically moan about the inevitable changes.
