bump! this saturday folks! anyone else going? pint?

Dandontdare

yes and yes.

Looks like it runs till 5pm - shall we meet 5-ish in the Briton's Protection? It's just across the junction at the back of G-mex Manchester Central, oposite the back of Bridgewater Hall, and we could move on after that - Fab Cafe's always worth a look-in!

dunno if i'll be there as late as 5!but i'll have a damn good try! we have a bbq invite so i'll probably have to be home mid afternoonish so i'll be early at the event maybe try and grab a pint for lunch! will look out for any boarders from your last nort outing so if you see a bloke staring in jeans and a dark shrt its probably me wondering if it is you ! say hi!!!

theres a train strike due saturday afternoon isnt there? might make me late home for the family in law bbq might it?

I'm out Friday night so may not make it too early, so if you see a sick-looking guy in a a Dante Tshirt rolling up as you're due to leave, that'll be me!

Only three of us going then? Thrill-lovers seem a bit thin on the ground here in Manc City One. Doesn't bode well for getting some kind of regular meet at the Lass O'Gowrie organised.

mogzilla

con cherry popped! met leigh gallagher and had a nice dredd sketch done ,which i'll scan soon and provide a link.... and met dan dont dare and a lurker whom ive ordered to decloak and say hi to everyone!

lots of wierd cosplyers (didnt have a clue who they were supposed to be) but if this becomes a regular thing tharg needs to despatch more droids to this on to add balance to the manga/anime theme...

poor leigh wasnt expecting as big a turnout ,hope he got his warwick davies autograph for his mate...

good day,enjoyed....there was also a brilliant local artist selling oil? prints of samurai ,i got a small fella on a horse but i didnt remember his name... which is a bugger..hopefully he'll be there next time then i can get a bigger one!

Bhuna

Well what a crock of shite that was. Far to much Manga for my liking and the room was way to small and where the feck was the bar! Than god I bought the tickets in advance and didn't have to stand in the que outside.  I did get chance to have a chat with Al Davison who was a really nice guy. Give me the old UKCAC's any day.

I have to agree. Apart from meeting up with Mogzilla, it was a huge disappointment. It was ridiculously overcrowded and the queue was enormous (I stood in it for 5 minutes before I realised I could just walk straight past it with my pre-paid ticket - this was the most satisfying experience of the day).

For a comic con, there was precious few comics around - the only stall selling GNs was Forbidden Planet, though there were quite few selling manga and related toys and stuff. The cosplay was quite impressive, but again it was predominantly Japanese stuff that doesn't really float my boat. If you wanted an autograph from Craig Charles, you had to buy a photo for £15. Right at the back was Bryan Robson, Dennis Law, and half a dozen other footy legends looking rather bemused, and being largely ignored by the geek-teen crowd. There were no panels or talks. Leigh Gallagher and Al Davison were the only guests that would interest me and they were both busy sketching when I passed (Mogzilla's Dredd by Leigh was beautiful!).

And as Bhuna pointed out - no bar. Don't think I'll be attending any MCM events again.

mogzilla

i was surprised by the lack of comics as well ,remembering this was my first convention ,i too found it to be too biased to the manga anime market and as you said ridiculously overcrowded ,and the queing!!! i nearly bought mini mog for a day out ,glad i didnt or she'd have been moidering to go home after the first one!
still its the first one perhaps theres sopme sort of feedback we can give the organisers to cater to more tastes...

Dandontdare

Don't let it put you off. I've been to Hi-Ex, Birmingham and Bristol before and they were all much more relaxed, friendly and interesting. I beleive half term coincides with the next Hi-Ex - now that IS a family-friendly event!

Beeks

Ah sorry folks..completely slipped my mind this..got another new addition to the family so been preoccupied

Will have to sort out another Nort gathering soon ;-)

Dandontdare

Well this was on again today. I totally forgot till I walked past around four - hundreds of cosplayers enjoying the sunshine - I think I recognised three characters (and two of those were Spiderman). The rest was all spiky hair, pointy ears and big swords, means 'nowt to me!

Steve Green

Just amazed that there are so many of these shows.

mogzilla

a major skintishness made me miss this :(

Sounds like a court martial offence to me
An old-school, no-bullshit, boys-own action/adventure comic reminiscent of the 2000ads and Eagles and Warlords and Battles and other glorious black-and-white comics that were so, so cool in the 70's and 80's - Buy the hardback Christmas Annual!
