On nice touch, I don't know if anyone's mentioned it, is how battered and worn the helmet is. Has a nice Boba Fett feel.

I always favoured the larger helmet in the comic over the smaller helmet favoured by Jock and others, on the basis of functionality.

I wonder where they got that idea from?

Did you know Christ was a werewolf?

Not sure about that pic you just posted Ratty... the helmet seems a litte wide

WHY DID THEY RAPE MY CHILDHOOD?? WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?

Bullshit mode off, yeah.... having read the script there's no way Dredd is looking fresh by the end of it. CANT WAIT!!!

I forgot to chop the last part of the quote off. I was only refering to the weathering on the helmet.

The helmet is just fine, not too big at all. Looks exactly like the size of a proper bike helmet. Not a biker myself but I have a lot of biker mates and have worn one as a passenger on many occasion

So far, love the look. Hope the right shoulder pad is an eagle. I've seen much better versions of the badge, but you can't have everything.

Ok, very interesting. We know how some of us would have the costume – exactly as in the comic, but I get it, it works. Guess it has been pondered over many a time on this board. Is the point to reproduce what is in the comic or is the point to make a convincing and credible representation of what is in the comic. I gladly accept that it has to be the latter. I am also open to the idea that a Judge might have different types of uniforms.

I was actually hoping for smaller retro shoulder pads because I have a soft spot for the older costume and prefer to see a more practical old style uniform than an unconvincing newer style one (apart from the helmet).

I think the helmet is damn close and that is enough for me to carry the look through. Surely it has to be that big. Loving the battered up effect. All-black visor is a neat touch. Yes, Dunk, I too spotted that the top part of the helmet I guess slides down to form the respirator. Nice.

Comparing my reaction to when I first saw images of the 90s film – I'm exited about this.

One think the image lacks a bit is it doesn't really look intimidating. That's essential for Dredd - he has to be intimidating as all hell. Hopefully Karl Urban will be able to project that with his on-screen presence so I'm not really too worried about not getting it from a still. We'll see!

What happened to Dredds adhearence to the idea of Judges being clean shaven.
Yeah, i know i'm being picky lol

Quite right, Dredd is a (self-described) stickler for such things, after all. Having said that, he's got to be showing a bit of stubble towards the end of these incredibly long shifts he routinely pulls. let's face it, a mere 24 hours is practically slacking by Dredd's standards.

I fell asleep after staying up all night, come here and....12 page thread!

Anyway a nice surprise.

Helmet- Love it. Looks great. I think I prefer the red stripe not going down diagonal at the bottom, but that's a nitpick. As for the size, I'll admit, when I first saw it I thought it too large. In a real world scenario it is realistic though. The snug looking helmets of a lot of the comics often don't allow for the brow of the judge's head. You'd think it were the shape of the helmet (much as I like the comic look).

Body suit- I was an advocate of not too much padding, allowing for higher technology in a thinner leather-like material. Looking at the picture though... I think it looks great. I'm also happy with the size of the shoulder pads. And while we can't see the eagle the other side, it does look a bit different, like it's a bit longer, closer to the neck (but that might be an optical illusion). I'm not fussed about the shoulder eagle though to be honest. He's got the badge.

Only thing I'm not sure of concerning the padding is what's going on around the back. It looks almost like he's got a hood or a backpack! The picture of a motorcyclist in a previous post explains that though. Still not sure of the look but we'll see.

Lawgiver- That's a decent take on the mark two. Without the curvy bit at the top in the comic version I think maybe it looks a little too, 'present day sub-machine pistol'.  It's good though, I can live with that.

Interesting to see so many posts referencing a user who's posts have been removed though! Heh.

I think the main thing for intimidation is the helmet with the dark visor and that creaturish pointy triangular eye design*. They got that pretty much spot on.

*Poorly described, but I wasn't sure of the correct terminology. If there is such a thing.

Diggin' what I'm seeing.

I have a few reservations - I'd have liked to have seen bigger, bolder shoulder pads for one thing. But the more I look at it, the more I like it.

I initially wondered about the fit of the helmet, but since people have been photoshopping the image, I think it actually looks okay.

Quote from: Judge Palmer on 19 November, 2010, 09:42:27 PMSHOULDER PADS - Are not big enough to offer protection and as these are just as important and recognisable as the helmet need to be bigger and have each pad clearly defined as eagle and plain bars. At the moment they are not in proportion with the  helmet, look flimsy and unimpressive.

BADGE - Very disappointed they chose to copy the design from the 1995 movie instead of having the vison to design their own as once again this is an important and recognisable part of the costume/uniform.

The badge and shoulderpad are so similar these from prog 2 it makes me wonder if they didn't lift directly from it, makes sense as they are going for young Dredd in this film (it'd be fun to see the design change over the years as this franchise rolls on):

if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Karl Urban looks entirely wrong for the part. His pretty/modestly-rugged features face does not synch with Dredd's 'grizzled drill sergeant' persona. The character of Dredd in the screenplay is okay, but will the aesthetically-pleasing and modest Urban undermine it? Those who panned Stallone's Dredd might in hindsight realise how better-suited he was for the part of a larger-than life, hammy character like Dredd. Cringing at the thought of having this uniform regularly headlining the covers of the Megazine and 2000AD as the movie release date draws closer.

And that Lawgiver (if that's what it is)... no defining characteristics whatsoever (think of the thwarted merchandising potential!). Looks like it's ripped straight from the latest direct-to-dvd £500,000 police action flick.

Must try to keep an open mind, only seen the one picture; next up, how about the Lawmaster, other Justice personnel and select CGI of Mega-City One?

Lawmaster and a long shoT of a full Judge uniform then im happy, nothing we won't see in a trailer or promotional material leading up to the film. But thats it for me*,don't want to spoil too much, just need to know hes in safe hands as seems to be the case so far...

*Andersons arse is also acceptable.

Out of interest Mods how are we going to play the spoiler, non spoiler threads. I've been avoiding the big thread for an age now trying to avoid spoilers (he says looking at a picture from the film, or rehearsal there of!) can we have one thread for plot and story spoiler and the rest spoiler free?

Not that there has been any problems here it has to be said.
