I doubt it's a fad, with so many companies investing in 3D technology..
You have never felt pain until you've trodden barefoot on an upturned lego brick..

COMMANDO FORCES

I'm speechless  :'(

But still hopeful....

Maybe you can flog them to the metro cops afterwards ;)

Still, I'm wishing that the budget spent on 3D had been given to the props guys.

Me too...is it actually a big risk shooting in 3D? Been thinking about it...say if the fad becomes unpopular again and 3D goes tits up before 2012...do they have the facility to switch it back to 2D?

3D film DVDs tend to be 2D, so I'm sure that'll be fine.

Wow! I'm now as excited and thrilled as I was when Spider-Man leapt into action... back in the seventies on tv.

Is this Judge Dredd, or Life on Mars: SA?

Yeeeesh.

Put me down for the dvd- when it's a fiver in the bargain bins.

For those that know the synopsis, the huge bulk of the movie is indoors, where there are no vehicles. I also can't recall any of these vehicles being hero vehicles, so bare with us..

I'm sure it will be alright on the night  ;)

It is a poison chalice these shots...you want to see them but don't want to see them

What you have to understand is most of us are still angry and upset about 95 Dredd...so this will probably be the most scrutinised film around for the next couple of years

Personally I hope they pull it off...don't think I could stomach another stinker  :D

I doubt 3D is a fad either, but I live in hope that it dies on its arse eventually.

Hmm, think in general people are overeacting a bit, but I am slightly shocked at just how non-futuristic that stuff looks. Was definitely expecting things to look a lot chunkier and more sci-fi. Even if those Landrovers had some chunky-looking body armour or hub caps welded on they'd already look way better....

I'll withhold judgement until I see everything in context. As Mike says, I guess it all comes down to budget... Still, the lo-fi aesthetic could work well if handled deftly.

Well, yes, 3d films are still released theatrically in 2d so there's no danger of the film being obselete - just that they might have wasted money on going the 3d route - and judging by the groans that usually accompany the "in 3d!" v/o on most trailers these days, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the bubble has well and truly burst by 2012.

Well.. It couldn't really be much worse, now can it? He keeps his lid on, which is a big bonus for starters..

Exactly what I was thinking...I think the 'Avatar Effect' is already wearing thin

I think what is killing it off is that every shit film around is scrambling to get on the 3d bandwagon. Avatar was a largely mediocre film, and though I'm still not convinced of the technology (3d movies always look blurry to me and the 3d effect lacks solidity), at least it was doing something novel. But when I see the trailer for some stinker like Jack Black's Gulliver's Travels, the "in 3d" announcement automatically invokes an eye-rolling impulse from me.

At least Dredd is being built from the ground up as a 3d movie rather than tacking in on at the last minute, which is a good start.

The 3D thing will slow down, but not fade away any time soon. There are a LOT of companies out there that are investing heavily in 3D, from TV manufacturers to software companies. The camera rig's on this show are easily a few hundred thousand bucks each, excluding the two camera's on them.. There will be a lot of people out of pocket if 3D isn't pushed enough. A lot of stuff on this production are firsts that will have a pretty big effect on the industry. There are some spectacular 3D shots planned for this that I can absolutely guarantee you'll never have seen before.

Well, that sounds encouraging. It sounds to me that it's primarily this feature that could be what is generating the industry buzz around the movie.

Hopefully Dredd will be held up as a positive example of 3d movies when it's relesed... All 3d seems to get lately is negative associations with movies like Clash of the Titans...

Michaelvk

Clash of the titans never was supposed to be 3D, that's the problem.. Most, if not all the in camera stuff was separated in post.. As you probably know..

Can any of you folks who can tell, by a couple of pictures of some vans, that this film will be shit please let me know the lottery numbers for this weekend?
