Slightly concerned here, about our Australian members. Is everyone okay? I havent, for example, heard from the mayor for ages.

I have friends who live north of Brisbane and they were lucky. They live on a hill but were cut off due to other places around them being flooded. No damage or injury so they are fine. One of them is an auxillary with the fire department and is now helping with the clean up in Ipswich.
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side.

A mate of mine lives in Brisbane with his young family. Luckily their house is on a hill in a suburb called Rosalie (I believe) and they've retained power and water. Some of the tragic stories that are emerging are heartbreaking.

I really hope all of our Aussie boarders have avoided the effects of the deluge.

Then there's Brazil...

...Sri Lanka...

It's the flash floods that cause the most devastation.

Im particularly concerned about the mayor, our thryllseeker, as im fairly sure he lives where it's at its worst.
If you're out there thrylly, get in touch!

Something Fishy

I feel for all these people. Really hope all our folk are OK.

Having travailed that part Australian and made many friends along the way I hope everyone out there is safe.

Floyd the Kermode should be fine as I think he is in Melbourne.

Yeah, Floyd lives in Melbourne, but I believe our Mayor lives in Ipswich, which has been very badly affected (bull sharks outside McDonald's, no kidding).  l do hope he's escaped the worst of it, and  is even now busy noting the similarities with the Deluge at the end of Horned God.

I'm sure he's assumed his mantle and is exercising his mayoral duties as we speak.

I'm already looking forward to his 5000 word report with random punctuation throughout on the subject.

Our cousin in Brisbane had to evacuate but thankfully the water didn't get in.... JUST!!!  :o

well the flooding has moved south and my parents live on a tributary to the murray riiver (in Victoria) so they have pretty hight levels around them and Echuca the nearest bigt town has had evacuations today but my dad assures me he's right where he is (my moms in Melbourne with my sister at the moment).  All up very tragic and some of the stories really make you feel, of course its all bush fires my side of the country at the moment but nothing on whats happened over east.
My love and thoughts to anyone caught up over there and hope Thrylseeker calls in soon.

From what i understand the flooding was caused by a lack of funding of flood prevention schemes as the funding was diverted to various EcoLoon projects as they in their wisdom had declared a state of permanent drought without accounting for El Nino effects that were expected.Apparently there is going to be an inquiry into all this.

The same thing was the cause of flooding in New Orleans. An 80 percent reduction in funding to help pay for overseas war/occupation initiatives.

A friend of a friend owns a resteraunt in Brisbane and after spending cash refurbishing it it was literally swept away.
