From what i understand the flooding was caused by a lack of funding of flood prevention schemes as the funding was diverted to various EcoLoon projects as they in their wisdom had declared a state of permanent drought without accounting for El Nino effects that were expected.

Poppycock.

Considering the amount of legislation passed following the 1974 Brisbane floods, Stevie genuinely doesn't think so.

He thinks that you'll find that these floods across the entire eastern side of the continent from Queensland through New South Wales, Victoria & Tasmania off the southern coast (even encroaching into my native South Auxtralia) are the result of unprecedented rainfall due to a more extreme La Nina effect driven by increased sea surfaces temperatures in the Pacific Ocean.

Not wishing to don Cassandra drag (not least without a dinner, a movie & being asked nicely first) what is also a bit of a concern is that the wet season has only just started.

Ditto for the cyclone season.

Some towns such as Toowoomba have already been flooded twice in these past 2 weeks.

yep, its going to be a wet one on the east coast, meanwhile farmers in the west are droughting.  Its waether and it happens and as Stevie said the shear amount of water dumped on those regions is well in excess of what they normally get (I dont know exact figures but probably more than yearly averages in a few days) and it is a particularly wet part of the country normally anyway.  No ampoount of planning could've prevented it.

Yeah, Floyd lives in Melbourne, but I believe our Mayor lives in Ipswich, which has been very badly affected (bull sharks outside McDonald's, no kidding).  l do hope he's escaped the worst of it, and  is even now busy noting the similarities with the Deluge at the end of Horned God.

:o Funny, I was thinking about that as well. I kid you not.

But our house and street is fine, untouched the flood waters. Yet, as I had gone for a walk around the block. I did get alittle nervous when I found how close those waters had got. As the flood covered the lower levels of the local school and some of the lower lying streets closer to the river. That was last Wednesday. Since then the waters over there and in our local township have have receeded. Today was the first time we could take the car for a ride through town and see the damage close up for ourselves. Alot of rubbish is strewn on the side walks. The Coles shopping centre will need demolishing.

Alot of houses were ruined, and in Toowoomba and Grantham some were washed off their foundations.

The real reason I haven't been online was that our regular internet was cut off last Tuesday and it was only today that I started using a very slow wireless plug-in.

I'm glad for been so lucky and thank you all for your concerns.

So, is a offcial report needed or will that do?

I suppose I could put up some photos.

Do that thing!  Delighted to hear your house escaped however narrowly TS, it sounds appalling.

And no-one is surprised.

Hurray for the Mayor!

Sounds like you had a lucky escape...

Peter meant to say La Nina not El Nino.

Anyway i am not saying anymore as anyone can read about it online like i did. However its unlikely that any amount of flood prevention schemes could have handled that amount of water especially as the ground was already saturated plus from what i understand there were not controls on development on the flood plains in the area after the 1974 floods.

Its the risk you take living in a flood plain.

IN DA HOUSE!!!!!

Great to hear form you Mr. Mayor.

Was a touch concerned about you. Friends of mine in east Brisbane were high & dry, but Stevie espied another who lives cxloser to the river wading through the waters with a guitar held aloft on the ABC news.

Here are some images of my home town being flooded.

Once again, thanks for all your concerns.
