With thanks to Si Gurr, via Twitter for the heads-up...

Of interest to anyone currently using Manga Studio Debut, or thinking of getting Manga Studio... between now and Jan 31st, Smith Micro are offering the package for $99 instead of the usual $299. That's £62 for the full EX version, which is cheaper than the normal upgrade price from Debut.

Totally worth it, IMO. Details here.

Cheers!

Dunk!

Excellent stuff, Jim.

I was holding out for the usual price drop around March-ish, but looks like xmas has come really early. Or late.

Well done Jim for this very useful bit of info. Ordered mine today after another Log In battle!

Why does it only happen to me?

Anyway it came about £84 in all. Pretty bloody good.

I'm selling my MANGO STUDIO 4 EX discs (full version) for £40 (incl. postage) if anybody in the UK wants them?

Not really, Paul. I appreciated all its little time-saving measures, but something seemed 'off' - clunky - about Manga Studio. I work well enough in Photoshop (and InDesign to create page borders, lettering and logos) that another program on the menu becomes overkill.

Yeah, it's taken me some time to find my comfort zone - in fact, I think I had version 3 EX for a full year and rarely used it - it was very backwards (controlling/moving rulers was especially ludicrous) . It was only after going to 4 EX that I really lept into it. Still find, for some things, that photoshop is easier/more intuitive (or at least it *feels* that way)- but for others, like panel borders, it can be done so quickly in MS that it's totally trivial to do (and adding a single spot colour - and changing it -is laughably easy). And moving to the story mode, rather than page by page, opens up MS in a massive way that Photoshop can't compete with.

I can't wait for version 5 (whenever)- if it makes the same leap that moving from 3 to 4 did then version 5 should be something to behold...

Before I had a go with Manga Studio, I experimented with laying a physical ruler, stencil or French curve atop my Cintiq screen and drawing lines/curves, which saves a lot of time, as well as giving an interesting, imperfect line (provided the Brush settings are suitably adjusted). To compensate for the few millimetres of displacement between pen and image, I drew the lines on a new layer and repositioned them before flattening.

Just a word of warning the Manga 4.0 arrived but with a extra Import surcharge of £22.88 p.

Cost about £84 anyway so total £106.88.

I'm really sorry, System -- I assume you ordered the physical copy, which most likely will get slapped with a bill for UK VAT when it hits Customs. I downloaded both my copies of Debut and EX, and had no problem with either, but I should have stressed that distinction.

Again, my apologies for not being clearer.

Cheers

That'll teach me to read the small print. ;)

I'll load it up over the Weekend and bung my musings about what I think of it then. I'm glad I've bought it for being a total miser when it comes to money it was really about time I upgraded. I should really do the same with Photoshop.
