Furiosa was something of a bomb, alas.

On a $168 Million budget, it disappointingly close to breaking even at $160 but no dice it would seem.

Still, box office isn't everything...

Steve Green

That's not breaking even - I think these days you need recoup triple the budget

A few years ago you could make a fair amount on disc etc, but since we have streaming that has made a dent in that too.

It really feels like I watched a different Furiosa to everyone else. And I love Fury Road, too!
You're a dark horse, Boots.

Rara Avis

If you're in the mood for a good western I can recommend 'The Dead Don't Hurt'. Written, directed by and starring Viggo Mortensen it tells the story of two immigrants (Danish and French-Canandian) in America around the time of the civil war. It's quite long (over 2 hours)  but you barely even notice it. Mortenson is great but his female co-star completely dominates the movie, she is mesmerising from the first moment she appears on the screen. I loved it!

I can also recommend The Salvation with Mads Mikkelsen if you fancy a more action packed movie.

Love lies Bleeding is great as well especially if you like giant women.

Aye, this is a good one! Didn't really talk much about it at the time, which seems a bit condemning for a 'Cronenbergian bodybuilding lesbian romance thriller' as it didn't quite hit the notes I think it was aiming for but then again...it's kinda great with its imperfections. But the more I mull on it, and indeed the fact I keep coming back to it a few months on, endears itself somewhat.
The sort of movie that if the above description piqued your interest absolutely give it a shot.

Finally last night got round to watching Once Upon a Time in the West.

Claudia Cardinale was just so stunningly beautiful, yet didn't look 'artificial', and Henry Fonda as the bad guy.  I can't help but feel that Harmonica AKA Charles Bronson is a thoroughly broken person that will never be happy despite getting his revenge
When the truth offends, we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there, but it is still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid. That is how an RBMK reactor core explodes. Lies. - Valery Legasov

Just a brilliant movie. Arguably Sergio Leone's best.

"What is Leone's best movie?", is a fun argument, involving so many great and enjoyable movies.
You may quote me on that.

Good question and I suspect the answer is the last one I watched but for now its down to either of the 'Once Upon a Time in...' but need to watch America again to be sure either way.

Going to be an unpopular one but Duck...You Sucker! aka A Fist Full of Dynamite nabs it for me.

OUAT...The West/America have more money shot moments, some of the best images committed to film.
But I think about the final moments of Dynamite on a far too regular basis. It's one of those genuine gut wrenches that will never leave you.

"But what about me? What will I do now?"

I have only seen one Leone film and I can't say it impressed me (I actually got pretty bored watching it).  It was Once Upon a Time in America.

As I was checking to see if I'd seen any of his other films I discovered that apparently Kurosawa earned more from copyright royalties off of A Fistful of Dollars than he did Yojimbo (a film I have seen and really enjoy).

Comes down to two for me: For a Few Dollars More is that rare thing, a sequel better than the original and has a that script very cleverly navigates having two equally important protagonists. However Once Upon a Time in the West has to pip it with that legendary opening scene, Cardinale, Harmonica's flashbacks, Fonda at his most despicable and that theme.

Terrific and (it seems) underrated score,* too. Probably my favourite of the 'No Name' westerns.

*In as much as any Morricone score is underrated, obviously!

I criminally tend to merge the Morricone western soundtracks in my mind as I associate them as much with the compiliation records I have of his works (and ya know my memory which I've mentioned before is poor... well probably I might be misremembering!)

I think its A Few Dollars More that had the clock watching countdown to the final duel that has the music crushingly slow as the climax draws near. Just creates such aching tension.

If that's right then yes Jim is also correct.
