With apologies for dragging the thread off-topic -- it's remarkable what can trigger memory, in sometimes unexpected ways. Case in point: TV & Satellite Week magazine appear to have changed their printers and are now using identical stock and finish to some of the --ahem-- gentlemen's magazines of the late 80s and 90s, from the tactile experience of the high gloss but satisfylingly flexible covers to the smell of the ink on the internal pages.

Added an unexpectedly erotic charge to scanning this week's viewing schedules, I can tell you.

:-)

Cheers!

I'd love to see a new comic printed or even in the format of the old 2000ADs.

Do they have those black-ink on beige light cardstock insets?  I received a braod education in sexual relations from those insets.  Unfortunately as no smouldering temptress of  a complete stranger has ever tried to jump me as our train went through a tunnel I've never had a chance to put much of it into practice.

You should try the DART, where it's at.

I'm with you on that one. At least a one off special or something would do the trick. Small pressers? Time for a retro edition?

Rose tinted glasses and all that.

Andy Williams' Christmas Albums just remind me of my dear old Mam. Every Christmas when putting the tree up we'd have those on the record player as she adored him. I downloaded some this Christmas and must admit I had 'a moment' when listening to them.

We also used to listen to the Black and White Minstrals Christmas Album which I recently managed to buy on a record and convert to mp3. It's fucking marvellous, hearing a faux Al Jolson version of Santa Baby merging seamlessly into Baby it Cold Outside then into Winter Wonderland then Troika is so uplifting it's silly. The orchestral arrangents are bloody amazing too. Racist? Not a bit. Entertaining? Definately.

I frakkin' loved the flutes, bass/drums in that.

I have an old CD with all the original music from that series, it's quite impressive how well scored it is.

Still waiting for this bloke to finish his re-do of the soundtrack with all the original equipment:

Yeah, re new comics on old paper. Even the look of that mock-up of a 70s/ early 80s dredd fortnightly does weird things to me. Despite it never existing, the nostalgia it inspires is overwhelming. Which suggests that it's not necessarily my love of comics that keeps me coming back, but my refusal to leave my childhood behind. This may also explain why, tucked in my workbag are two copies of tiger (1970), two copies of jag (1969) and two copies of ranger (1966): six comics i bought yesterday from a shop in town, which i never read as a child.
