So far I've only read two Marshal Law books, picked up from the local library. Fear and Loathing, which was quite good, and a prose book with comic art. I forget what it was good, but I actually didn't find that one particularly good. The story itself wasn't too bad but the writing style put me off. It seems I prefer Pat Mills's writing when he sticks to the comic format.

Anyway, my experience with the first volume means I'm curious to pick up the others. I'm not sure I'll go for the Omnibus edition though, these things tend to be expensive.

Might seem like a silly question but what will actually fill up the 500pages of this book?

Where there that many Law series?
(Please excuss my ingnorence but I've only ever read one issue I found in a second hand book store in the states).

There's quite a lot;

Original comic appearances:
Marshal Law #1-6. Epic Comics 1987-88.
Marshal Law Takes Manhattan. One-shot, Epic Comics 1989.
Marshal Law - Kingdom of the Blind. Apocalypse Comics one-shot, 1990.
Toxic! #1-8, 14/15, Apocalypse Comics 1991.
Marshal Law - The Hateful Dead. One-Shot, Apocalypse Comics 1991.
Marshal Law - Super Babylon. One-Shot, Dark Horse 1992.
Marshal Law Vs Pinhead-Law in Hell. Two issue series, Epic Comics 1993.
Marshal Law - Secret Tribunal . Two issue series, Dark Horse 1994.
Marshal Law/Savage Dragon. Two issue series, Image Comics 1997.
Marshal Law/The Mask. Two issue series, Dark Horse 1998.

But if it's true that the crossovers aren't included...? Is there still enough?

Lessee... the 'Fear and Loathing' collection is 200 pages (when you factor in design sketches, treatments for the proposed movie, etc.), the 'Blood, Sweat and Fears' collection is 168 ( Kingdom of the Blind / zombie stuff / Superbabylon), factor in '...Takes Manhattan' and you're not far off the 480 - which is presumably reached by 'Secret Tribunal'.

This is getting beyond a joke in some trades. I can't recall which, but I bought one last year and worked out that something like 45% of it was filler. Covers are nice to have, and sketches to a lesser extent, but scripts? Who the fuck wants to read six pages of script when you're holding the finished comic with all the words there?

Only time I don't mind is Elephantmen, which does include lots of stuff, but they do the unusual thing of collecting convention sketchs, and these are a lot more fun than character designs or panel designs 'cos depend on what fans have asked for!

Um, me, for one. Just to see how others do it, if nothing else.

I have to say that, much like dvd extras, these days im bored to death of 'vam'. I actively seek out dvds *without* extras, largely because id prefer to read a 'making of' book than watch a documentary- or, as seems more often, a parchment-thin publicity puff piece filched from the epk. I too have picked up a number of fat, tasty looking trades recently only to find the back 20% made up of unfinished sketches and covers- often monochrome and colour both- which hold so little interest for me i actually objected to paying for them, and put the books back. I love reading comic scripts- but i'd much prefer such stuff to be available online so i could choose to access it or not (for a fee), without being forced to do so when i buy the trade.

For me, it depends on the trade. I'm always happy to read the notes at the back of Hellboy universe stuff, because Mignola and co. often provide some real insight into the ideas and the strips. Usagi Yojimbo also has good material, providing each of the covers of the episodes compiled within.

Looking at the stories being collected in it, isn't it strange DC picked this up? Title by two British creators (not sure if it is creator owned), published by Marvel, Dark Horse and Apocalypse Comics and they release this instead of the tons of uncollected and out of print properties they have.

Yep. It's also good material for those of us interested in scripting. Reading 'how to' books articles/books is good, but there's nothing quite like checking out the script of someone well acquainted with the process.

That's so weird. It was about a tenner a wee while ago, which was clearly a glitch (there's a thread about it all here abouts), that eventually got fixed and it was back to £30 odd quid and now its gone back down to a ridiculously good discount??? What are Amazon up to?

Cactus

Aww, I wish I already had a copy. I could trade it in for £0.25 worth of Amazon vouchers to spend on millions of items.  :(

Automated pricing is amusing.

Well if they want to milk the Kevin O'Neill cash cow, Metalzoic is the way to go.

O Lucky Stevie!

Not only has Marshal Law a higher profile, it's also spandex  which makes it an easier fit with  DC's current remit The fact that this also allows DC to stick it up Marvel is purely coincidental [/sacasm].

Plus Kevin wants to recolour Metalzoic. He's a touch busy with LOEG at the moment.
