Well, it turns out my wife has a couple of friends living in Fukushima who lived in England until recently with English husbands. We used to meet up every now and then and have Japanese food and let all the kids play with each other. We don't know if they're alright at this stage.

Also, my sister in law's husband has family living there, including his father.

Horrible.

Still can't contact my wife's relatives in Aomori - which isn't too far from the epicentre of the quake. She's freaking out about it now.

The daughter of one of my work colleagues was over there for some presentation in a bank, she's trapped on the 22nd floor of a building and they can't get down. The building is still shaking. She could be there for a few days!

That's really terrible, Dirk and Lee.  Hope later news is better.

My colleague decided to land in Japan last night. Of all the timings. Not sure if it's Osakha or Okinawa she's gone too. In fact no one is quite sure what part she was going to. Okinawa's an island far to the south so might not be too bad. Still no one's heard from her. I hope she's okay, she's a lovely lady and I 'd hate anything to have happened.

God that black wave of death just chilled me. So remorseless like some huge fucking amoeba.

Hope boarders Japanese chums/family are okay.
The Justice department has a good re-education programme-it's called five to ten in the cubes.

Truly shocking imagery coming from Japan, my thoughts are with everyone affected by this.

Have we heard from Floyd yet?

Awful.

And the parasitic way the news revels it makes me feel sullied.

I'n sure how useful it is, but Google has some resources available for those who are affected by the earthquake.

Awful.

And the parasitic way the news revels it makes me feel sullied.

Particularly our old friend, Sky News, who added sinister music as they cut to commercial- presumably so that we all know that something terrible is going on.

Awful, awful pictures coming in that, more than anything else, just make me feel really sad.
Pffft...

CNN have it over their footage montage too.  I'm watching people die, and I'm hearing theme music - you couldn't make it up.  24hr TV news is a vile fucking thing.

I don't watch these exotic news channels. So far I've only seen BBC News 24. I missed Channel 4 news last night. All the coverage I've seen has been quite sober.

It's horrific seeing the farmland inundated and houses crumpling or else being carried along by the flood. I'm appalled at the way superstitious doom-mongers have latched onto this as evidence to support their crackpot theories of divine retribution, the Mayan calendar, etc.
STRIKE !!!

The Legendary Shark

Watching this on CNN yesterday was horrific.

Not least because they had reporters in Hawaii waiting for a "six meter tsunami" to hit the islands. They had all their cameras ready, graphics and music standing by - then somebody said that the tsunami would be 6ft, not 6m. Then six inches. As the saner humans of the world cried "thank God!" the CNN "reporters" were very disappointed to be showing a few languid waves rolling up and down a beach rather than a scene of Aquatic Armageddon.

It's at times like this that I think all the military forces of the world should be re-purposed into a kind of global International Rescue. Imagine all the good that could be done with just half the money spent on bombing peasants into oblivion.

House of Usher

9.20am - the desperation of BBC News 24 to fill air time becomes apparent as they interview any English speaker living in Japan they can get in touch with, but they don't really know what questions to ask. Awkwardness all round.
STRIKE !!!
