Bit of good news here, my wife's missing relatives got in touch with her dad during the night and they are okay....their house is gone and they've got a shedload of crap ahead of them but nobody lost their life, and that's the main thing. Hope everybody else waiting to get in touch with people have similar good news awaiting them.

It's at times like this that I think all the military forces of the world should be re-purposed into a kind of global International Rescue. Imagine all the good that could be done with just half the money spent on bombing peasants into oblivion.

There's a lot we could do in the world if the people in charge would only put their minds to it.

Great news Van. Thank goodness they're OK.

The whole thing is truly horrific and then on top of that there's the possible disaster brewing at the Nuclear plant in Fukushima. I had to stop watching the BBC news channel after a while yesterday because even though the casualty figures were initially low, you only had to watch the footage a couple of times to realise you were seeing people die in their hundreds. Terrible.

You're not wrong Sharky.

JUDGE BURNS

Its just so awful watching all this devastation unfold. Just watched on skynews that a radiation leak is confirmed.  bad times ahead there then.

Glad you got good news about your family Van Dom.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this disaster.

TordelBack

Good news there Dirk, however awful their situation is.

IAMTHESYSTEM

Quite a hefty explosion at that Japanese Nuclear Plant. You can see it on the news.

Probably caused quite a lot of damage and some of the Nuclear experts appear to be saying that a release of a Radioactive cloud of steam is almost inevitable. Eeek!

The news this morning became too upsetting to watch, really. My alarms are shrieking at the emergency at the nuclear power plant, and the thought of a radiation cloud... This is very much not good, and I had to take the kids out onto the hill to play frisbee to distract us all from the unfurling catastrophe. I'm glad that those who have heard from loved ones have done so, and sincerely hope thaose who haven't do so soon.

Oh holy shit, that's unbelievable, it actually made me nauseous to read it.  Dropping two nukes on civilian populations wasn't enough like revenge?  I don't fancy this God bloke of theirs much.

Hoagy

Yeah lot of Hiroshima denial, not mention Nagasaki(oops I just did)). Very much like neo-nazis  holocaust denial.

How I pity people like this. Their minds will never be free, their hearts will never be at peace and their souls will never be clean.

Stupidity knows no bounds:

Quote...when a particularly tasteless tweet started rolling around the web last night, and I found out it had been written by Family Guy scriptwriter Alec Sulkin, I wasn't too surprised. Here's what he said:

If you wanna feel better about this earthquake in Japan, google "Pearl Harbor death toll".

This world view, that the citizens of a nation are somehow statistics to be tallied in a historical spreadsheet of deaths, and that there's somehow a desirable, karmic distribution to be had is absolutely disgusting.

Maybe he'll say it was "only" a joke, as though jokes were meaningless.

An interesting thing about Twitter's free-flow of retweets is that many people will have read Sulkin's comment, somewhere along the line, and not know of his association with Family Guy. I just wanted to join those dots.
