Mac help needed......

Have an 5g imac... want to upgrade firefox to v4 but get message saying my os is crap and I can't have v4.

Can I ...

A) upgrade os
B) install Firefox 3.6.6 (or whatever my os will accept)

Right... the current version of Firefox doesn't support Mac OS 10.4 or earlier.

You could upgrade your OS -- your iMac should take any Mac OS up to 10.5, but not 10.6 (the current version). You can pick up a copy of 10.5 from eBay for about fifty quid.

However, you'd probably want to think about sticking some extra RAM in the iMac or you might find the OS a bit sluggish, which might make the whole proposition a bit expensive.

You can download Firefox 3.6.6 here and this should work with 10.4. If you haven't got 10.4 either, I'd have to send you back to eBay where it's still available fairly cheaply.

Adobe Flash Player 10 is reported to give unsatisfactory performance on PPC machines, but you can download v9 and earlier from this this page.
